New Zealand's housing shortage is largely an Auckland problem. Clearly there's a big difference between a "city" with a static population of around 63,000 in the middle of nowhere with essentially unlimited space around it...

.. and a city with population growing rapidly towards 1.5 million and no free space around it.

One of the solutions to this problem has to be for people to consider living outside of Auckland, but not in the Bay of Plenty (there are enough Jafas
    here as it is).

Buiding more appartments is a simplistic approach in your usual inimitable fashion victor. Auckland hs reached the stage where it'll breed more
criminals purely because their are to many people. Much like the experiment with rats back in the seventys overcrowding will only cause more
unacceptable behaviour so following your suggestion they'll also need to
build more prisons to handle the overcrowding problems Auckland will cause.

    Liebor would love vertical slums.
I doubt any of those tower blocks still exist...
There is a great deal of available land in and around Auckland which
will become available when the Liebor heavy council get fired

Build houses? That's for other people, JohnO.
Don't worry. Nationals got it just the way they want it: . . . http://www.radionz.co.nz/national/programmes/morningreport/audio/201801125/social-housing-minister-responds-to-criticism-on-homelessness
    http://www.nzherald.co.nz/politics/news/article.cfm?c_id=280&objectid=11640202

Of course whether many others agree is another matter, but the
    land-bankers are doubtless happy . . .
