• Julianne Genter on TV this morning.

How disappointing. Genter usually stands out as one of the better ones in the menagerie of loons that is the Green Party. But her idea of permanent 30kph zones around schools is just stupid. As Paul Henry pointed out, there are only children outside
schools for a few hours each day - what is the point of a slow zone 24 hours a day?

Genter's lame answer was that there probably wouldn't be much enforcement outside the peak times.

WHAT? Hasn't she seen how the traffic police operate around here? They *live* for ticketing opportunities and you can guarantee these slow zones would have plain speed camera vans living on them all hours.

And at that point she got a bit snaky and didn't even acknowledge Henry when he
said thanks for coming on the show. Quick as a flash he put her back on the spot and asked "don't you like me?" and got another snide answer. Basically he made her look
    foolish.

As I said, a bit disappointing from Genter - she's usually better at advancing her crazy ideas than that.

Our local schools invariably have police cars (mufty and marked) near schools at busy times. Seems to work very well, I haven;t seen any silly drivong other than the odd stupid parent who does a u-turn in front of the school.

Yep. And some schools in my area have electronic speed signs that reduce the limit (to 40kph) at the school times. A very sensible idea.
