I know daft lefty critics got terribly hung up on the racial surtext of
this one, which in the end is neither here nor there in what’s essentially another WICKER MAN/HOSTEL retread. But it's a smart addition to the
subgenre, and while it can't quite sustain its premise after the revelation of what's going on, it's genuinely unsettling for most of its runtime and Daniel Kaluuya is astonishingly good in it.
There's also a nod to LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT in the guise of an irritating-comic-relief cop who ruins the atmosphere and the punch that
could have been the ending.
Worth your time, just about.
