a very strange film that sadly doesn't live up to it's premise from france.
in a rundown french seaside town a young boy nicolas spots what appears
to be a dead child wedged in the rocks underwater.
when his mother checks she says she can see nothing of the sort.

it's a strange town, all the children are similar looking blond haired
boys, no girls. all the mothers look very similar, there's no fathers.

soon nicolas is told he's ill and taken to a local hospital that's also
very rundown and messy along with a number of other boys.
he's injected with something and then taken back to the ward.

despite it's short 1 hour 20 minute running time its still rather
glacial with minutes passing with the camera doing nothing but focusing
in close up on nicolas or other characters.
the story eventually moves on but not many of the questions the film
raises are solved by the time of the denoument.

some creepy imagery and well shot sea scenes though. possibly worth seeing.

    My review from 2016:

"Nicholas lives with his mother in a desolate village by the sea. The
only inhabitants are slightly odd, but similar looking women and their
young sons; there are no female children or adult males. Nicholas is
starting to question his surroundings - where do all the women go at
night? Why do all the children need medicine? Who was the dead boy he saw
in the sea? This French film is very intriguing and has a slight "Shadow
Over Innsmouth" feel to it. As it progresses, pieces fall into place
making for a quite disturbing revelation. Unfortunately, it stumbles
badly at the end which is a real shame as it was so close to being
    something special."

Have you seen LITAN, the closest thing to a French WICKER MAN?

Superb film with an utterly unique atmosphere.
