    That came in a tab.

THE best stuff was Owsleys' ... but even by '68 there
was hardly any of that left. I think the Beatles and
Dead sucked up the entire reserve :-)

Ah, I remember that ... basically in a clearish 'crystal'
    of sugar.

Dot could be good - or CRAP. Depended on the maker.

Alas once the 60s drew to an end, 'acid' moved from
an 'art' product to just 'product' - often 'kitchen
sink', so to speak. Good bad or middlin' - luck of
the draw. A good time to STOP taking it.

Even at Woodstock, warnings about the "brown acid" ...

"Sugar Cube" acid predated them all, and it was kick-ass (800 micrograms compared to Orange Sunshine's 200 mcg.). "Sugar cubes are the normal way people take liquid LSD, so yes, it's a very real thing. I've only done them the once, and it was a beautiful trip, but maybe a tad too strong as it
    went
    for 24 hours! : https://www.reddit.com/r/LSD/comments/34hehx/lsd_in_sugar_cubes/

Even 200 mics was kinda "too much" really - roughly
"turning the circle" - a ref to the clear dot on
blotter. Half a circle was more reasonable. I was
never into 'extremes' - there's no Great Revelation
there - just a mis-calibration of the "Ah HA !"
pattern-rec system. Sure, the pattern in Formica
wood veneer tell you ALL about the Truth of all
    history .......... :-)

However if you wanted a multi-day holiday - there was
always STP .... a lot of people got there by accident
since the stuff was slow to take effect. They'd take a
hit, and an hour or so think "I got ripped off, this
stuff is WEAK" and thus take another, or several, hits.
    But THEN ........

I knew a guy who spent three days under the kitchen
table in cartoon-land after making that mistake. Oh,
and he'd no concept of where the shitter was -so you
can guess what he smelled like after three days.
Clorox and Pine-Sol, LOTS required under the table :-)

Perhaps the most reasonable is DMT. It has a profound
LSD-type effect but only for maybe 20 minutes. Zoom
to the moon - and back again before your lunchbreak
is over. It was sometimes called the "Businessmans
Lunch". Alas its effect is SO strong, SO sudden, that
it warped a lot of little brains. It's basically from
normal to the psychedelic-illuminated depths of your
neural wiring in 60 seconds - BANG. Only those with
experience with acid or shrooms should try DMT. The
short duration has made it the standard for academic
psychedelic research though - any level with almost
    minute-2-minute micro-control.

I do remember the diff between acid and mescaline,
acid was more "electric blue/magenta' while mesc
    was more earth-tones.

And then there are 'new' drugs like slavia - which
seem to overlay a dream-world on top of the real
world. YT used to have lots of videos ... people
would first laugh, then say "What did you say ?
What ???" and then lose it entirely. One guy
started running around evading imaginary foes
and actually leapt through a big glass window.
Fortunately, the effect is only about 5 minutes.
I think the old shamans would take LARGE doses,
    perhaps explaining those super-weird Mayan/Incan/
    Aztec glyphs.

    Oh yea ... I remember 6th or 7th grade ... Sgt.
Stedanka would show up with a big fold-out wood
box containing jars full of 'product' they'd
confiscated. This was VERY educational - since
we'd then know exactly what produced what desirable
effects and what it looked like :-)

Oh well, such amusements had their place and time.

Most of what I encountered could best be described as "beer-drinking acid", about a three on a scale of one to ten.

I remember hearing about the bad acid at Woodstock, where medics had to set

Pure LSD is clear. I'm not sure if the purple was a
contaminant in and of itself or a touch of dye added
to HIDE a (perhaps yellowish) contaminant.

In any case, the quality went sharply downhill towards
the end of the 60s. During the 70s it was hit or miss,
    luck of the draw.

Never did all that MUCH in the way of psychedelics, just
a sample of a number of different kinds for comparison
purposes. Think even then I knew that Too Much can be
    Too Much.

And no cozmic magic crystal revelations ... just some Ha-Ha.
There were some quasi-religious LSD 'sects' back in the day.
Idiots. Mis-wire your brain for kicks, not Truth.

A big dose of Valium will usually end an LSD trip abruptly
(but mescaline works via a different chemistry). 'STP' is
actually more closely related to amphetamines. Interesting
how similar effects can result from tweaking entirely
    different neurochemical pathways.

The problem was BAD dope - lots of literally kitchen-sink
crap by '69 ... or maybe that was "toilet bowl". Loaded
with all sorts of nasty contaminants and unfiltered
reactants, kinda like modern meth. Burn you up. The best
chance of getting OK stuff was in university towns where
there were a lot of actual chemistry grads.

By the latter 70's you could get pure mescaline, no nasty
cactus buttons needed. Tried it a couple of times and then
gave the rest to some cowboy dude - with warnings. I later
discovered he snorted the ENTIRE amount ... and woke up a
couple days later in the county Tank. Cue "Pink Room" :-)

The SW aboriginals knew of a few other weird things made from
fungi scraped off the bottom of desert rocks. Can't really
    recommend those ......

I could go on for hours -- days -- regaling everyone with fifty years'
    worth

Heh, heh ... they ARE innocents/ignorami in some respects.

But the youth always think the world started with THEM - and
are thus mystified about why things are like they are, why things
are done like they're done. This is a case where every generation
does NOT really build on what came before - they have to re-invent,
re-discover, all on their own - often with a LOT of painful
mistakes involved. The SAME mistakes ........

Like thinking socialism/communism leads to ANYTHING good.

Problem, it fucks-over the REST of us.

    Dunno how to fix that.

As for "medical marijuana" - actually THC and I do not
get along very well. That's one legal-ish buzz I cannot
benefit from. Hate opiates too - make me feel sick
and ITCH ! I've refused them even after surgery.
