She obviously planned her disappearance, she hid to avoid detection,
and she probably brought some food with her and only went out to
forage when she ran out and grew hungry. This wasn't a “lost in
the woods" story.

How do I know this?

Maui is pretty small - If she wasn't actively avoiding
detection she would have been discovered.
She left her phone in her vehicle - Since she apparently
didn't know the area, that seems to have been an odd decision.

She was walking around - A seriously injured, dehydrated
and/or starved person doesn't have the energy to forage for food.
They find a location and remain there until they are discovered,
or they die.

No one is claiming that they heard her yelling or making any noise
to attract attention - Besides humans, feral pigs and dogs, there
are no predators of consequence on the Hawaiian Islands. She
should have been trying to be found, and it doesn't appear that
she was. She left the area where she was purportedly injured -
Since that would have made it more difficult to find her, she
had to have known either not to that or try to return to that
spot.

This story has hoax/mental problems written all over it. If you
spend two weeks stranded in a wilderness area you are either
seriously injured or you are deceased. You certainly aren't
hobbling around looking for food.

NOTE: The Makawao Forest Reserve only covers 2390 acres, or about
3.3 square miles. An area this size could be searched thoroughly
in about one day; two if there are caves and cliffs.
