A SWAT raid of a what investigators called a million-dollar honey oil manufacturing operation in Gardena has landed two men behind bars, police
said Thursday.

Investigators were informed about a month ago that some armed men were
seen running in and out of an industrial building in the 1400 block of
134th Street, according to Gardena police Lt. Mike Saffell.

Believing a robbery may have occurred, an investigation was started. Once narcotics activity was strongly suspected, a search warrant was served at
the location about 5 p.m. Tuesday, he said. That’s when investigators discovered suspects were making honey oil — a powerful cannabis
concentrate typically derived using potentially explosive gas, Saffell
said.

The raid yielded about $600,000 worth of honey oil, which users consume
with “vaping” devices, according to Saffell.

Hazardous materials crews were called out to clean the premises “due to
the possibility of explosion and the toxicity of the chemicals found,” according to police.

It was the largest such operation ever found in Gardena, police said.

Saffell said the operation endangered others in the commercial-industrial
area where the lab was found.

“It’s a very dangerous business for the surrounding community, for sure,”
he said, citing the gases and combustible substances present.

Those taken into custody were identified as Miguel Quintero, 29, and
Jordan Hang, 27. Saffell said they were booked on suspicion of
manufacturing a controlled substance by chemical means.

He also assured the public that any tip, even those provided anonymously,
is welcome and will be investigated.

“If somebody suspects a lab or marijuana cultivation is occurring at a neighboring business, give us a call,” he said. “Just point us in the
right direction we’ll take it from there.
