A Colorado man arrested for tossing a toddler in front of
oncoming traffic told police he thought the child was evil.
Bryant Hickcox was arrested Friday night in Colorado Springs
after reports he threw a 2-year-old boy out into the street as
cars were approaching an intersection.
Hickcox, the boy's cousin, told officers that the child was "the
devil," officials said.
The child was not struck by a car and is expected to be fine.
"He threw him hard into traffic and the baby rolled," witness
Tracy Willner told KKTV. "Thank God the lady in front of us
swerved and was paying attention."
In security footage, Hickcox is seen standing on the side of the
road near South Academy Blvd. and tossing the child into the
street before taking off.
Willner said she immediately jumped out of her vehicle to check
on the baby, as her husband ran after Hickcox.
"I'm just standing there in the rain holding the baby,
screaming, 'Someone call 911, someone call 911.' A lady gave me
a towel and covered him up. I just held him right there and for
a little while he stopped crying," she told the outlet. "I just
wanted to keep him as warm and safe as possible."
The child's parents said they are still trying to understand
what happened, but are thankful witnesses helped their son.
Hickcox is currently behind bars at the El Paso county jail on a
$50,000 bond.
