I watched a patient almost choke to death on a hotdog. Finally
someone snuck in a gut punch and the wad of bun exploded out of
his mouth and flew 40 feet across the now chaotic cafeteria.
He survived because someone broke the rules when he wouldn't
let anyone get behind him to do the Heimlich maneuver from the
back position pulling upward with both fists clenched to his diaphragm
An example of doing everything right but the patient still dies.
Roy Scott was 65 years old. Police were called to his residence.
He had the same excited delirium syndrome as Mr. Floyd. It's
a condition that often ends in death whether medical help makes it
in time or not. A massive Ketamine injection sometimes saves the patient.

Deputy Chief Chris Jones met with members of the media today to discuss the in-custody death that occurred on March 3, 2019. At approximately 3:09 a.m., LVMPD patrol officers were dispatched to an apartment complex located at 3601 El Conlon Avenue to
investigate a report of three suspicious men outside of an apartment. The caller, later identified as 65-year-old Roy Scott, reported that one of the men
was armed with a saw.
Patrol officers arrived and did not observe any suspicious persons or circumstances near the apartment. The officers attempted to contact Scott and knocked on his door. Shortly after, Scott exited the apartment with a pipe in one hand and a cell phone
in the other. Scott was ordered to put the pipe down and he complied. As officers talked to Scott, he retrieved a knife that was concealed in his pocket
and handed it to one of the officers.
Concerned that Scott may have other weapons, the officers attempted to do a pat
down. Scott began to physically pull away and was escorted to the ground by officers. Scott continued to be physically resistant for several minutes before he could be
handcuffed. Scott’s breathing began to slow and he was showing signs of a phenomenon known as Excited Delirium. Excited Delirium, also known as agitated
delirium, is a condition that presents with psychomotor agitation, delirium, and sweating. It may
include attempts at violence, unexpected strength, and very high body temperature. Scott was placed in the recovery position until medical arrived.
He was to Valley Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
