I saw a distrotest site and it was totally awesome! Maybe a SynchronetTest
Site Server might be next perhaps?
The same thing it does on distrotest.net. It would let you try outSynchronet.
Feel the thrill of editing text.dat and poking around in SCFG without committing to 15 - 30 painful minutes of installing stuff for yourself.

Anyway, I do have a 3G dongle I was toying with the idea of setting it upas
a modem but just the fight with lines noise and poor quality for that ONE call a year you might get....Just not worth it.

What's the URL of this "distrotest site"?

That doesn't exist (to my knowledge), but presumably it would be
a site that lets you see what it entails to be a Synchronet sysop
without actually installing it on your machine?
What does either of those sentences actually mean?

Ahhh, I see. Well, I get the *idea* of it, but it doesn't seem
very realistic (or even possible) to me. As we all know, it's an
on-going process, with a tweak-here and a change-there, and
checking up on this-and-that. Not something you could
"experience" with a few minutes on some "test site".
I know you (and others) know that already. Mostly that was for
TM's benefit... ;-)
I guess an argument could be made for a site that lets you test Mystic, Synchronet, etc. A friend of mine worked on something like that years ago,
The good thing about docker, is that you can test/play very quickly"docker run ...",
and after a brief download of the image you are running - you are up andusing (and
configuring first if it is the first time).cleans itself
For testing/playing, where you dont care about loosing data, then docker
up when the container stops. If you want to keep it longer, then you justprovide
persistent storage to the container.you "docker rm"
So, its a good way to try, play almost instantly, and if you dont like,
and move on. ...deon

This sounds perfect as I'm VERY BUSY - I've had to resort to microwavingmy
morning PopTarts lately.

The site is called: www.distrotest.net
The Millionaire wants to go to a website, click on a button, and then find himself staring at a test instance of Synchronet shortly thereafter. Docker is great and could certainly be a piece of the puzzle, but I don't think it satisfies his latest wishlist item on its own.

22. Heh. My son is about eight years older so he vaguely remembers my BBSing in the '90s but my girls have no idea. Just something I do on the computer not on a web browser. They are of the age where if they had to use a rotary phone it might take a minute.

Yeah, I was doing that for a while as I found that dicking around with the toaster really cut into my text.dat editing time. I found that the PopTarts got too soggy, so now I'm just eating them raw. I just rip open the foil an
