I really have no idea what you're talking about. The beauty of open source is that it could never go to a completly paid type system. Red Hat used to be free, then they went paid, but Fedora is their free version now which is basically the development for future Red Hat releases. -altere

Yep. And my understanding is that what you're paying for with Red Hat is the enterprise support, not necessarily the software itself.
Also, my understanding is that Fedora is their free desktop version. There's also CentOS, which is basically a free community-supported Red Hat clone for servers.

Yeah, I'm aware of RedHat's commercial structure, I was trying to be
basic in my examples for the op. I was using RedHat well before they
moved commercial, then used Fedora, and have branched out from there
trying many different *nix OS's.
Red Hat was one of my main distros in the early days, because I ran software that was setup on the assumption of a Red Hat environment. I did try Fedora, but found the rapid release/retirement cycle not suited to my relatively long lived systems. Fedora itself was solid. So, I switchd to CentOS until around 8-10 years ago, when more software assumed a Debian style distro (often Ubuntu). I've sence settled on Debian or Raspian for server applications and Mint with Cinnamon for desktop.

Back in the late 90's the ISP I worked at used Solaris and Red Hat. Learning on slackware, Red Hat was a breeze, Solaris wasn't that
difficult to figure out either. I did have the opportunity to play
around with AIX and I can say, without a doubt that I couldn't stand
it. After 2005 or 2006 when I started my own business it just made
sense to use CentOS for our servers then, and use it still for that purpose. Desktop use, I've been running Linux Mint for years and have another that I don't use often with Ubuntu on it as well as another
that I use on the weekends for Karaoke (singer singups) running a USB
Boot version of Lubuntu on an old laptop. Aside from those, I could go
off listing all the different ones I've tried but it would make this a rather lengthy message although I did have a lot of fun with BSD for a while as well.
And since this is Synchronet Discussion, I will say CentOS7 was a bit
of a chore to get Synchronet and dosemu to work properly since there's
no dosemu package in the 7 repository. Looking back, I'm sure one of
the initial versions of dosemu I used I could have gotten to work, but ended up compiling 1.4.0.8.

I just found out from reading that there are two kinds of Linux out there:
Linux Paid OS/Apps

Are you talking about things like Redhat Enterprise vs CentOS? RHEL has proprie tary software that's useful for enterprise environments. CentOS just takes RHEL and strips all that out of it.

It's according to our unit of measure. If we use Carl Lewis to measure
how fast I am...you're right. On the other hand...if we used what I
call the "tripping" measurement...I would be faster. ;)
My reflexes are incredibly fast too, so even that attempt may backfire.
:) But unless you can manage 200 metres in under 27 seconds, I think I have a pretty good chance. :D

Let's see...I think I can...I think I can. Now...time to throw that engineer off the train & get to the race. ;)
