I like old games, and I like new graphics so hopefully I'll like this. I
bought it on steam, so if I don't, I can always get a refund.

This is an overtly, blunt, shameless atempt by Bethesda to punish and put in its place to modders who do a better job than them.
We're merely months away from Skyblivion coming out, and they decide to dish out another redux of one of their titles.
They are so lazy and shameless...
I hope nobody buys their remake and those who do anyway, give it a bad review while stating very clear that their redux is of a lower class than the modders relase.

    Cheers!

    Pol Malvinas.

I got a refund. I couldn't get past the very beginning. I read the walk-through,but couldn't find the hole I was supposed to go through. The graphics look great. I own the original, but had never played it. I wanted
to play an old-school RPG with new trappings, and honestly thought this would be it. I had to wait about 10 minutes for the shaders to load, which I
thought was ridiculous. Normally that alone is enough for me to get a
refund. I still don't know if that's a one-time thing, or every time you
play a game. I've never played a game more than once that had to load
shaders. I have an 11900K and a 4080Super. That should be more than enough.
I know it's not a 14900K, but it should be enough power for anything.

Get used to it if you want the latest and greatest graphics. Most newer games have to load shaders, and take about that amount of time. However, it's usually not every time you play the game. I believe it's only when you initially install, and then whenever you update your graphics drivers.

Your PC specs really have nothing to do with being enough power for loading shaders, except that maybe with lower specs it would take even longer to load them. ;)

Thanks, I cancelled my refund after I realized I didn't have to compile
shaders each time I played. I have a really short attention span and
generally only play a game in 15 minute spurts. If I was going to have to
wait 10 minutes in addition each time, that would cut my playtime to 5
minutes, which wouldn't be much fun. I'm kind of enjoying this game, though I've got a major issue with my controllers. If I push a button, it pushes multiple times instead of once. I don't have that issue with any other games and have reported it to Bethesda. Of course, it's a weekend.

    Thanks!

Glad you found a game you like, and I was able to help keep you from refunding it!

Just keep in mind, if you update your graphics drivers, you'll have to load shaders again. So maybe set a time when you're not ready to play, and update drivers and then load the game up so it takes care of the shaders.

Not sure if you're into slower paced story lines, but with some shooter action, but "The Last of Us" is a pretty good game. I played the first one all the way through, and haven't bought the second one yet (but it's on my todo list). I think I want to get through the second season first, though. I also have Resident Evil 4 (remastered) already purchased and installed, as I got a heck of a deal on it. Just haven't played it yet.

Ok, it's Windows 11 and my wireless controllers. I didn't have any problem with them until I upgraded my OS. Now if I play games, I have to be tethered
    to the computer...

Shaders are calculated once per installation. It generates a local database with the shaders, and re uses that with every run. Some games re calculate shaders upon hardware change or driver update. Still, 10 minutes seems a sever impact in load time to wait for the game to become playable. Most games generate a "base" amount of shaders and progressively calculate more as you move through the world...
Anyway, that would be deviating the conversation towards shaders calculations and Bethesdas proficiency with game engine design.

Ended up getting a refund after all. Played for about 2 hours, but got sick
of having to constantly refer to the walk-through. I need a game that holds
my hands so I can actually figure out where to go next... I want to use a walkthrough minimally and preferably not at all. I had a similar problem
with Cyberpunk 2077, but with that I played about 4 hours before I got
totally stuck and could no longer get a refund. Still a waste of money.

Strange, I've owned every Elder Scrolls game. The MAP is what is your 'hand holder'. It gives you the location that you need to visit (although, you will need to find it if it is out in the wilderness.)

Maybe this type of game just isn't for me. I require s linear story without any exploration. I don't have the attention span to have to fugure ANYTHING out on my own.

I believe that with Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls games, going to the walkthrough, or reddit, or youtube, or wherever, to get clues on how to go on in the game, is part of the fun.
If you don't like that, it's good that you got a refund.
