This is most certainly not true about all of the USA but, in parts, what appears to be severe violation of social distancing is actually more of an indication of there being more distance between things than in other parts.
I speak mostly of the West... inland from the Pacific Coast, but West of
the Mississippi for sure.
If some of those folks are considered "essential," they may be traveling
pretty far just to get to work (or to the nearest store), especially in the Rockies or the desert.
On the other hand you can see where, East of the Mississippi, there are
lots of folks who are still traveling plenty. The Great Lakes states seem
to be doing the best.
