    Concerning...Freezing rain

    SUMMARY...Precipitation mainly in the form of freezing rain, mixed
    with some sleet will persist this morning from northeast Wisconsin
    through much of Upper Michigan. Rates will range from .03 to locally
    up to .1 inches per hour.

    DISCUSSION...Early this morning a band of precipitation with
    freezing rain and sleet continues from northern WI through much of
    Upper Michigan. The activity is developing north of a
    quasistationary front where isentropic ascent has increased in
    association with a southerly low-level jet downstream from a
    progressive vorticity maximum over western WI. Warm advection
    resulting from the low-level jet will maintain a melting layer
    aloft, sufficient for the precipitation to fall mostly as freezing
    rain through much of the morning as surface temperatures hover near
    32F. RAP forecast soundings indicate a shallow unstable layer
    evolving above where theta-e advection is maximized around 850 mb,
    suggesting some convective enhancement is possible. Activity will
    decrease from the west to east during the afternoon as subsidence
    aloft develops eastward in wake of the shortwave trough.
