Areas affected...western South Dakota
Concerning...Tornado Watch 171...
Valid 110152Z - 110345Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 171 continues.
SUMMARY...Severe risk -- along with lingering/isolated tornado risk
-- continues across Tornado Watch 171.
DISCUSSION...As a cold front continues to advance across western
South Dakota, storm mode continues to trend away from cellular
toward a more linear configuration. As such, overall risk continues
to gradually transition toward mainly damaging winds -- and possibly
hail. Still, with a background kinematic environment supportive of
supercells, some tornado risk will likely continue over the next
couple of hours.
In addition, a cluster/band of storms has developed just south of
the current watch -- over Oglala Lakota County South Dakota and into
northern Sheridan County, Nebraska. As such, a watch extension in
area into the southern-most South Dakota counties may be considered.
