Unfortunately, I have impending surgery on my left hip. I've heard
that it's less difficult afterwards than knee surgery...but I've also heard that like with all surgeries, there's a chance of failure...but
the worst thing is the downtime...no driving or heavy lifting for 3
weeks to 6 months...and for me, that's way too long.
It's best to do it before it gets cold out, not only because it will be CS>easier to get around, the warmth keeps your muscles loose, and it's a lil CS>tougher for rehab. Plus the fact that I had both done so close to each other CS>medicine has come a LONG ways since '90. Plus I have a MUC better range of CS>motion.
I'd say do it as soon as you can!
First, sorry for the delay in replying. Over the last month, I've had
to move back to my Mom's place, and deal with the finances in getting
her placed in a nursing home. I had difficulty in getting the BBS back
up with cable modem and router issues. The technician is coming by in
the morning to look at things. If wx1der.dyndns.org doesn't work, tbolt.synchro.net does (I logon with SyncTerm).
Well, with being back at my Mom's home now, I'd still not be able to drive for a month...but I've still go to unpack a bunch of stuff from
the move from my apartment back to my Mom's place. But, if we do get a
bad winter, I will be able to be at home for several days. At least I
have a Post Office Box that doesn't need to be checked daily, and at my Mom's place now, I don't have to worry about driving over here to check the mail. Of course, if we get a bad winter (ice storms, etc.), the mail isn't going to run, anyway.

There's actually been some changes to my BBS'es since you lat logged on here CS>I changed software, did some upgrading...better web design..k. I've been CS>busy! Still working on stuff, like wondering why Echomail won't get sent CS>from binkit! Starting to piss me off!!!
I went ahead and had my other hip surgery on Sept. 20th, alll is going well! CS>This is my last week of in-house rehab, and I ca do more stuff! cann't wait
How are things with you bro
Are you still calling BBS's while you wait to put yours back up?? What part CS>of the country are you in? I'm in great state of Ohio!!
Well, at least my stuff is working. Had to do a roundabout way to work around the cable modem in bridge mode, and with my router, to get all
the items on the network to get internet. But, unsettled weather will
have me down again from Halloween into the weekend. If I didn't have to worry about lightning, I'd leave things up. I just hope the lightning activity at my Mom's place is LESS than what is was at my now former apartment.
þ OLX 1.53 þ Are you SURE it's plugged in?

Rough. The light at the end of the tunnel, which has looked the
last few weeks more like an oncoming train about to run me over, seems
to not be so ominous now. I think all the financial deals are in to take care of my Mom's nursing home care...I go for a health care meeting
there on Thursday. I hope I never have to go through this again.
As per the last message, my concerns now will be weather and power for everything. Even if I can get a generator, if the internet is out at Xfinity, it won't matter whether I have power for the BBS or not.
The only BBS I've logged on to his my own, in Little Rock, Arkansas. I've been so busy with financial matters for my Mom's nursing home care during the day, and ham radio traffic nets in the evenings, that I've
done very little BBS work.
I think in all my years of computing, I've been BLESSED! I've only lost 2 CS>computers from a power surge or lightening! I"m surprised it's not alot CS>more.. lol

See, it's the BBS name.. it attracts ligthening! *grin*
Sounds like you could use a stiff drink brother... Do you have any kids? Do CS>you have any siblings?? My prayers are with you AND your mother, you 2 need CS>em!
Here in Ohio, we had 'kinda' bad rain/thunderstorms, lost power while I was CS>sleep, didn't even know it, and I wouldn't hvae known if it wasn't for the CS>fact that the kitchen clocks don't autoset! lol!
I've been KINDA busy, so I've been modding my BBS little by little.. I think CS>it's coming along nicely! Still have alot that I wanna do... but I'll get it
Well, the computer hasn't been hit by lightning, although I'm a 2 time lightning strike survivor. Indirect strikes at 3 and 16 resulted in both
a severe shock, and nervous system damage. But, I carry no electrical charge, and can be handled safely. <G>
I was going to originally call it "The Wall Cloud BBS". A wall cloud,
is the lowered portion of a cloud at the southwest corner of a severe thunderstorm, in a rain free area. This is where a tornado is most
likely to develop. One of my first users (her son designed the lightning ANSI I have at logon) suggested "The Thunderbolt BBS" for a name. I
liked it so much, that it "stuck".
Well, I was never one to pick up the vices of tobacco (smoking,
e-cigs, etc.) or alcoholic beverages. However, when I eat a meal, I have to have quite a lot of beverage to drink, to wash the food down...so,
"I'm into heavy drinking" <G>. My late wife would eat her food FIRST...then, wash it down with her beverage "to fill up the nooks and crannies". I told her in that regard "You're nuts!!".
My HTML knowledge is very basic. I can write a batchfile for the BBS, but my programming ENDS at setting the clock on the microwave oven. If I forget how to do that, I guess I'll starve to death. :P
I also had originally had the BBS under GT Power for dial-up from 1992 to 2005...then went to Synchronet, then to Virtual Advanced, but am back to Synchronet.
Wow! What are the odds! I know you gotta be playing the lottory more often CS>now! :) You are SUPER lucky it wasn't fatal, or did more physical harm. CS>I've read about people getting hit and losing limbs... fingers, arms..
I'm sure in your case, it gets ALOT worse with age..
I wish I had some of the ANSI from my BBS's back in the day, I had some CS>really good stuff me and some of my users nmade. I just don't have the same CS>patience I had back then to really get back into it, although it's a little CS>easier to make some good stuff now
I can say three prolly isn't any kind of 'beverage' I haven't atleast tried! CS>Now that I'm older, I don't have the young iron guts anymore. Hell, warm CS>orange juice hurts now! LOL! But I do have a Digestive disorder I've had CS>since my teen years, Chron's/Colitus, and GERD. If I took better care of CS>myself when I was younger I wouldn't have as many problems now, but what's CS>the fun in THAT! :)
I still have a lot of the ANSI and RIP artpacks from Outworld Arts in
my ANSI files area. However, with numerous bots and hack attempts via
FTP and SSH, I limited FTP downloads to only the "BBS System Files Area" (file board 1, file area 1)...and removed SSH completely. To get the
other files, one has to be a verified user in good standing.
Well, I have IBS, Diverticulitis, and GERD. When I first had rectal bleeding, I thought it was colon cancer. However, the doctor said
"you've got the same thing women get from having babies...hemorrhoids".
I understand that those who sit in one place for a long time (such as
over the road truck drivers), tend to develop them as well.
I'm gonna have to connect and download them, I love their work, it's CS>something, if I could draw, I would try to make! *LOL*
Me and you should donate our bodies to Medical Science after we pass! I thin CS>if they could prolly find a cure for EVERYthing! hehe!
I'm about to get ready and dressed to go to my pain management doctor this CS>morning. Every since the 'Opioid Epidemic' Doctors are kinda afraid to CS>prescribe certain opioids that will work to patients. I'm one of them. I'v CS>been on a opioid of some type since I as 14, I have had times where I abused CS>them, at a younger age, I was also suffering depression too. I have learned CS>(and STILL learning) to accept my aliments and love me for me. It's been a CS>uphill battle for the last 3 years... finally! :)
If you want to apply beforehand, send netmail to FIDONet 1:19/33, with your name, desired alias, city and state (no address needed) and desired password (max 8 characters). Note that you heard about it from the
FIDONet Survivors echo, and I'll get you pre-registered, so you don't
have to go through the New User Logon process.
As for the graphics, I do my ANSI's by hand...mainly for the
bulletins, and some of the holiday emphasis screens. The holiday screens are from 3 sources:
I'll do that for sure! Thanks for the invite/info....
I wanna get back into doing my own ANSI stuff. If I had a better editor I CS>would. I'm surprised there aren't many out there...
