Seems so; baseball isn't as much of a draw for youngsters as
    it used to be.
Dunno, maybe the suburban kids are still into it...

From what I've seen, basketball is still the game that draws most of
    the kids.

It doesn't take up much space... :)

a number of recreation areas scattered around the city,
that have a number of choices of games, probably including
    baseball...
Still, nothing like a neighborhood pick up game...
You need a certain number of kids for that... and, as I said, it
could be happening at the neighborhood recreation centers... :)

We used to have adults playing games with the kids some nights. No set teams, join whichever one needed players. Played until it got too dark
    to see the ball.

In our family, that often ends up being a soccer pickup game... still
happens some nights when we are camping together... ;)

spinach, kale, sweet potatoes, an apple gallette and another
pastry (forget what right now). Also were given a couple of
good sized hot cross buns to try an experiment--making bread
pudding-- out of them and letting that vendor know how it
    turned out.
That sounds like a nice haul.. :)
T'was, and the bread pudding turned out quite well. I found an
easy recipe on the All Recipies site and gave it a try,
definately a keeper. I may have put in more raisins than it
    called for but.... (G)
That sounds good... hard to have too many raisins in things, to
my mind... ;) How did the vendor like the bread pudding...?

It's still in our freezer; we had choir practice last week during
market time and couldn't get it to her. Maybe tomorrow, if it's not dumping down rain (forecast is for lots of cold rain) at market time.

Did the weather cooperate...? Or are you planning to try again this weekend...? :)

That's a good size.. ;) Not too big, but big enough to be
useful... :) You might even make quick breads in it... or
    mini-loaves of regular bread... :)
Probably so, have to try it some time soon.
Once you have a bit of time available.. ;)
Don't hold your breath while looking for a report. (G)
Nope, I know better... ;) But eventually, you'll try it, and
then you'll give your report.... ;)

Sooner or later. It does do a good job of the tasks we've asked it to
    do so far.

    That's promising... :)

    Hi Nancy,

I can well believe that... Unless one is regularly seeing them
and paying attention, kids do grow fast... :)
Too fast sometimes! Robert is taller than his mom already.
probably RH>> getting to be about as tall as his grandpa Haffly.
And you'll soon see just how much... :)

We'll know fairly soon. He was part of a piano recital last week,
parents sent a link to his section. That kid is good!

Nice. They grow in more than just size.... ;)

Yes, when we went out in December, 2012, he was having trouble playing
"Streets of Larado" with proper timing, etc.

Delivered the bread pudding yesterday, will get the reaction
maybe tomorrow when Steve talks with them about a technology
    problem they're having.
Hopefully she found it quite tasty... :)

She did. Saw her last week and got the verdict.

So now she'll get the recipe from you and make her own...? ;)

TBD, she makes a lot of other goodies for the market.

    (new toaster oven)
It is getting the use, and most of the time we're close enough
to hear the beep so I'm not concerned.................yet.
I'll really give it a work out this summer.
Yup... when you are trying to keep things cooler in the house...

I used the small one for a pie shell the other day--worked well.

a bit more near the end of baking time.

Maybe you could get some to bring to the picnic...? ;)

Very much so; Steve made sourdough biscuits in it last night.
    Also a useful thing... :)
True--starter needed using so the small oven was good for
    baking biscuits.
A small enough quantity that it would fit in the smaller
    oven... :)
Baked in 2 batches, some went on the road with us but are now gone.
    Of course... :)

    And were gone fairly fast.

Did you leave any home...? Or were they eaten before you left...? ;)

We could always make something like the sandwich rounds. (G)
I was just thinking that the smaller loaves you'd just cut
differently than the large ones for sandwiches.... but the
sandwich rounds are an even better idea... :)
They are very handy but one company recently started making
them a bit larger. That means more carbs per round so we're
not going to get those unless there's no other choice.
But if you make your own, you can make them the size you
    want... :)
True, have to figure out how to get them a uniform size/shape
    tho. (G)
I'm sure it would only take a bit of figuring and
    experimenting... :)
A bit of tinkering here and there. Might try to come up with a
cutter to get them a uniform shape/size.
Find the right size bowl, maybe... :)

Or something else suitable. Preferably something that would cut as it
is pressed into the dough; a bowl would have to be cut around.

Depending on the bowl... I was thinking of one that has a rim more like
    a tumbler...

so later next week we will be able to have an in person concert.

    stuff though... :)

We're in the heat advisory too so trying not to do a whole lot of
"heat up the kitchen" type cooking. Should be in the upper 80 (about
    89) by July 4th; I'm going to check the freezer for what we can put on
    the grill.

Yesterday was supposed to "only" be in the high 80s, but it snuck into
the 90s too... and today the high's supposed to be in the 90s again... I
think it's already there... that makes 5 days of the excessive heat...
and tomorrow I think is to be the same... but there's a cold front
coming... Friday and Saturday (when we go up to and come back from the
Pond) the high is supposed to only be in the 70s... and then go back
into the 80s for Sunday... That's much more bearable...

Did our regular Sunday stuff; next week is a church wide
picnic instead of LG. Temps should be a bit cooler for that.

That would be a good thing... :)

    Hi Nancy,

Nope! Found out yesterday she's out of the habenero mango, just
has jalapeno mango now. She will hve more of the former before
    September tho.
And you'll be back home for a little while before the picnic,
    too...
About 2-3 weeks, I figure. I'll just keep checking back.
    That works... :)

Didn't get over yesterday but hope to this week. Been on the hot side
    for jelly/jam making anyway.

Unless she has an airconditioned kitchen... (G)

I don't believe it is--the house is set in a well wooded area. They may
have air conditioning but just not use it very often.

Definitely keeping you busy.... :) Meanwhile, here we are in a
multi-day heat advisory... highs in the upper 90's, heat index
above 100 degrees.... and with air quality index high as well...
We are mostly laying low... We'll still do our regular Sunday
    stuff though... :)

As of now, predicting a high of 85 with much lower humidity. Sounds

The poppy seed chicken..? Some things are worth using the oven for... even when it's hot out... ;)

That was one that I'm glad the church had a working oven for. It
acutally goes together quite easily but tastes like a lot more fuss and
bother than it is, to make.

    habenero jelly...?
Some, and knew he would pick up what was needed. Didn't say
anything to him about habenero jelly so he didn't know to ask.
Ah... that would make sense.... ;)
    Hopefully when we get back...............
    Yup.. :)

    Maybe this week end?

See if she has any, anyway... ;)

True.... not doing putups means not heating up the kitchen
quite so badly... :) I'll be happy if we just stay out of the
90s and get cool nights.... :)
I'll try to have things that can be put on the grill, in the
    microwave, etc.
This time of year it's a good thing to have things on hand for
such cooking... ;) Or to just throw together without any
    cooking... ;)

I do a good bit of that too, usually with the vegetables.

I'll make a seafood or salmon salad, no cooking at all necessary...

push comes to shove, can always make pasta/sauce. (G)

probably do the poppy seed chicken for LG this week end but
    start with rotisserie chickens.
Ah, so that starts with cooking the chicken on its own, and
then NB>>> adding ingredients for the baking...?
Yes, but this time I had to cook the chicken--Sam's was out of
the rotisserie chickens by the time we got over there. Got there
about 8 pm; they close at 8:30. One of the workers down in that
area said that they went fast that day. Oh well, I know how to
    cook chicken. (G)
Yup... oh, well.... Just a little more effort than you thought
you'd have to put out for it... ;) It was a nice thought while
    it lasted... ;)

Until the house (chimney) work is done, every hour of daylight is
going toward that. Shopping is done after dark--got the ice cream we brought to the church social last night about 9:30.

Ah... that makes sense... can't really work on it after dark, but it's something that one doesn't want to procrastinate on, either...

He's almost done now. The weather is holding up (staying dry) but been
quite hot. Between his camelback and other water breaks, he's staying
    hydrated tho.

True, but wouldn't be able to bring it to the picnic.
I meant, shows up between now and leaving for the picnic... :)
Only a couple more Saturdays to go--will check this week as we
    missed the market last week.
    Hopefully she'll have it... :)
Missed the market again this week because of the work Steve is
doing on the house. He was planning to take me, then forgot.
So hopefully he'll remember this week... :)

He's pretty sure he will remember. (G)

Good. And hopefully she'll have the habenero sauce... ;)

Understood... I'm not too strict in my meal planning... but try
to have a wide enough variety of things to fix for the week (and
if not this week, I'll need to get less for next [g]) on hand,
from some effort to practically none at all... Things like the
surimi get used often enough that it doesn't age out, waiting to
be used, so it's safe to keep on hand... :)
I try to have some sort of an idea of what to do, depending on what
night it is and what the plans are for the night.
I often have at least a rough idea... but things can change quickly
around here, for one reason or another, so I just stay flexible...

Very understandable. I keep some easy do stuff in the freezer and if

For me, the push to shove easy is the surimi... <G>

    All sounds good... :)
