I ran it by her yesterday at church and she thought she'd be available any of the three weekends recently floated... She tended to think the August ones could be preferable, as school would have started in September (and she both tutors some kids and has been homeschooling a youngster from our church with special needs), but that as it's a weekend, it should probably be ok also....It would be good to get a date selected (any date that is agreeable to

Although this recipe calls for 1/2 stalk celery, I'll bet they meant 1/2

I may not be able to make it. I'll have to check with my boss. I was going
to go to Utah to visit a friend over Labor Day weekend but may make plans for later on, possibly over Christmas (so I don't burn so much vacation time). I may be able to try to take my personal vehicle for a drive up to Williamsport then Friday evening I could drive up north...

I may be able to make one but like you, limited leave (new job, I'll
get to that as I catch up). For me a critical element for a north much
of DC/Baltimore picnic, would be how close the airport is to the
activity.
3 hours from airport won't work for me as I'd have to fly in Friday
and back out Sunday.
Don't plan based on me though. When I was set for the Boston one, it
was a 30 minute taxi and MLoo was gonna tuck me on a sofa so I'd arrive about 7pm Friday and leave about 4pm Sunday. Hurricane closed my
airport though....
The Rochester airport is less than 5 minutes from my house... and less than an hour (about 40 minutes) from my sister's house, where we tentatively plan to hold the picnic... :)

As usual. Have to think about what goodies to bring/make while we're there. The camper kitchen is limited but will allow for extra work
space if needed. We do have some grills, etc that can be used as well.

Yes, and since they're not a southern breed, we get them on a catch as catch can basis. Most years we miss, but the times we do get them are appreciated.

I estimate my 2 trees may have cropped 300 this year. I've had 2

OK, so it will possibly be a bigger group than the last few times.
Looking like it... :) we'll know for sure in a month or so... :)
As of now things are still a "go" for us, but we may have to change
plans. Steve's mom went into the hospital a couple of weeks ago with
an a-fib issue, came out with a pace maker. We may need to go to
Florida to help out there but don't know for sure yet. Still have a few weeks to see how things settle out but wanted to give you the "head's
up", just in case...............
So, I did check when we shopped Saturday... there were bags
of Empires already out... dunno how long they'll be there, but
I'd guess they should still be around when you come... :)
They should be around well into the fall--my cousin got some
last November when we were up.
That sounds like you should be able to get them no problem,
then... :)

Mom and Dad are back on their own now but Steve's younger sister will
be down again in a few weeks. Not sure when older sister and husband
will move south for the winter, probably late September or so. As of
now, Mom and Dad have told us that we can keep our plans to come up to
NY next month but we're going to wait a bit longer before making a firm committment.

Just in case they are being overly optimistic as to their ability to cope...? If she's got the pacemaker, she's probably in as good or
better shape as she was before she was hospitalized for the Afib...

Still somewhat limited in what she can do until she can get out of the sling. I think she has about 2-3 weeks yet but she's probably trying
to do more than she should be.
Steve's sister had scheduled her next trip/bought the tickets
before the heart issue came up so she's going to go, just to see
how things are progressing.

Yes, and after the picnic, the restriction on time on my feet will be lifted. We've got a peeler/corer/slicer gizmo that will make short
work of that part but will still have to cook and can the apples.

True, even now. We were out for a bit, got home about an hour ago. I
just spent an hour prepping stuff (yellow bell pepper, onion, carrot, celery, yellow squash and a boneless pork chop) to do a stir fry
tonight. Got the rice cooker going and pulled out orange peel, garlic
and ginger for seasoning. Now I'm off my feet until Steve is ready for
me to cook. He's working on a project for the house that I can't tell
him to break off at a certain time--I work on his timing so the stir
fry works well.
