Yeah, Tiger, he's the exception, as more symbol or
personality than golfer. The golfers whose names are
on the tip of my tongue are such as Arnold Palmer,
Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, and Eddie Arcaro. I.e.,
    not of this generation.
True... the first three of those are those that I'd think of from the

Quiz time - three of the four won all the major
titles in his sport in one season. Who is the odd
    man out?

PGA tour.... and the couple of women golfers who come to mind for me
(Nancy Lopez is the only one I remember the name) are probably of an
older generation as well... I used to notice a little more back when we
still got the paper, especially when the LPGA came into town on their
    tour...

I read Nancy Toff ... who wrote the definitive history
of the flute (Oxford University Press). The only girl
golfer I can think of is Anneke Sorenstam, I think
    that's the name.

The great disappointment was that Maryvale, home of
the Brewers, is now an SAB Miller house and is thus
along with Tempe Diablo at the bottom of the list of
    ballparks to revisit.
    Sigh...

Not to worry - if my eyesight and finances don't
improve substantially, there will be no reason to
    go back there.

    Ya just never know.... ;)
Well, in that 24-6 debacle, it would have taken
the sudden incapacity of the entire Cubs team to
    change the outcome.
Indeed. :) But one could still hope for that miracle... (G)

Hah. It wouldn't be a miracle. It's one of those
human foibles that we want to be granted special
treatment by some deity or other superpower. We have
to remember that for every Brit praying "God save
the Queen" there was a German and half praying "Gott
strafe England." I can't see a just or merciful power
choosing the Brewers over the Cubs at any time, much
less with the natural order of things having been
enforcing itself for 8 1/2 innings.

Yep. Sometimes I put immediate contemporary
stuff in posts before the more comprehensive
"trip report" comes out, especially as I'm
using the latter as echo filler.
Which on rescanning I read as chicken fillet.
Yup... and yeah, I could see that possibility..... ;)

    Did it again.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v7.04

    Title: Chicken Parmigiana
    Categories: Italian, Poultry
    Servings: 4

1 pk Chicken Breasts * Parmesan Cheese
    1 cn ITALIAN Tomato Sauce ** 2 c Flour
2 tb Olive Oil 1/2 ts Salt
    Mozzarella Cheese 1/4 ts Pepper

    * Boneless and skinless
    ** Contadina or Hunts
Put olive oil in a hot, heavy skillet. Place chicken in skillet and
    brown
for 2-3 mins on each side (longer if chicken is thicker). After they are
browned, remove them from skillet and drain on paper towel. Pour out any
excess oil in the pan (there shouldn't be much if any!). Pour the tomato
sauce in the skillet and heat it until it is gently bubbling. Return
chicken to the pan and allow to cook for 2-3 mins more, turning chicken
    to
coat well. Sprinkle mozzarella and parmesan cheese all over the top and
cover skillet. Allow this to cook until cheese begins to melt. Serve
    alone
or over spaghetti or linguine. Source unknown

Wild guess, the one I don't know anything about, Eddie Arcaro, though
I'd not be surprised to be wrong... ;)

That sounds like a name I recognize as a female golfer...

So this may have been a farewell trip this year....?

Predisposed to that reading now.... ;) Speaking of chicken, yesterday
Richard and I went with our friend Cathy to a place we've only been once before, a while ago... Yummy Garden Hot Pot... I had the orange chicken
lunch special, with hot and sour soup... the soup was a bit spicier than
many, but tasty, the chicken came in a nice red spicy sauce with slivers
of orange peel all through, nicely crunchy breading, and a couple of
broccoli florets to garnish... Richard had the pork rice noodles (from
the main menu... looked pretty good... And Cathy had the pepper steak...
far more onions and peppers that she could eat, but she liked the beef
part... ;) One of these days, we plan to go there and actually do the
hot pot, see if that's any good.... They had a menu that was for bento
boxes, too... you could choose the various items for your bento box from
the menu... lots of choices for each part of it... flat price of $8.95
for the box, from what I could see.... Another thing to maybe check out
some time... Both times we've been there, the food has been good, the
prices reasonable and the portions large... Easy to understand why it
appears to be a favorite with the college crowd... we see the large
groups of (mostly Asian) students getting off the bus at the stop across
the street and heading over there, plus the parking lot is usually well-filled... :)

    Hi Michael,

On (09 Apr 19) MICHAEL LOO wrote to NANCY BACKUS...

Odd man out is a jockey--rode a good number of famous horses in his day.
About the same time frame as the golfers, probably closest to Arnold
    Palmer in age, IIRC.

PGA tour.... and the couple of women golfers who come to mind for me (Nancy Lopez is the only one I remember the name) are probably of an older generation as well... I used to notice a little more back when

There are a lot of Korean golfers in the LPGA now, most names hardly
known outside of the country. Michelle Wie, the teen age phenom that we
heard a lot about while we were in HI, is in her late 20s but has only
won one major, one minor tournament since turning pro at age 16. Paula
Creamer is a bit older than Michelle but did better some years ago, same
as Anika Sorenstam. Those names might be vaguely familiar. (G)

    Yes, see above.

We've got other reasons to go to the area. (G)
