There are some useful meds, at least for some people, some of the
time... but your assessment has merit to it...
If one factors in all effects for everyone, the total
sum is closer to zero - any benefit to the user is
balanced by adverse effects to the same person as well
as to others and the environment.
    Maybe.

I'm almost willing to apply the equal and
opposite reaction law from physics to
    everything else as well.

The confusion is severe enough that Wikipedia
has a subheading under Fender (vehicle) that says
For the part of an automobile designed to
absorb minor impacts, see Bumper (automobile).
And here I've always thought myself not particularly mechanically minded... ;)
Some of us have our gifts, but we also have antigifts.
Probably true.... At least things we are better or worse at... :)

In the tug-of-war of the universe, we do our
minuscule best and merely hope that our net
effect is positive. By my way of thinking,
every good deed is balanced out by something
bad, perhaps on the other side of the world,
perhaps in your neighborhood. It is ardently
to be hoped that the good will overbalance,
but the chance of it winning in a rout are
    slim and none.

The final cost was in the 3K range, so more than
a Panama vacation but less than a new car. She was
also moaning and groaning about "my baby," so there
was also an emotional stake (women too can have an
    attachment to cars!).
For sure.... I've been attached to most of mine.... ;) There was,
however, one that was more of a grapefruit, and which quickly lost any attraction it had had when spanking new.... even then, it was more utilitarian than my other cars have been....

I wonder why cars get citrusy. Was one of the
workers on the line drunk or something on the day
    it was made?

... I'm of the faction that believes mushroom sandwiches are not
    burgers
That's not a faction, it's the mainstream and I hope
always will be. I mean, big agarics have their place,
but not as a meat substitute.
    Totally agreed... :)
Plus the nutrients in mushrooms are harder to
get, because of their cell structure.
Better as an adjunct, than as the main attraction... ;)

Most of us get enough nutrition without
having to try to rely on mushrooms.

... Becoming a vegetarian is a missed steak.
    Worse, it's 10,000 missed steaks.
    Indeed. :)
... Take it with a grain of salt, plus a slice of lemon & a tequila shot

    Lemon garlic mushrooms
    categories: easy, side, grill
    servings: 4

    1/4 c lemon juice
    3 Tb minced fresh parsley
    2 Tb olive oil
    3 garlic cloves, minced
    pepper to taste
    1 lb large fresh mushrooms

For dressing, whisk together first five ingredients.
Toss mushrooms with 2 Tb dressing. Grill mushrooms,
covered, over medium-high heat until tender, 5 to
7 min per side. Toss with remaining dressing.
