I second that... we do miss you...

I'll try to stick around.. life as you know is nutso.. Next week I
have to take my two dogs (eh.. true mutts) to the vet. Indy, the boy,
has what looks like a big sebaceous cyst on his chest, and Sophie has
some kind of weird rash on her tummy (like bad reaction to something outside or to her flea med,etc.).. I'm hoping for their sake they can
be treated easily.. they are not young anymore..(I think 10yrs. old
    now?)

Oh, I know how nutso life can get... I remember Indy and Sophie... hope
    they are easily treated... :)

off. She is over 99 now IIRC, and keeps us busy.
That can keep you busy, for sure... and I'm sure that you are also
enjoying having her with you, she sounds like one neat lady... :)

She is... and thankfully we have lots of help for her... Aides come in
3x a week for her alone (showers, cleaning her room, doing her
laundry), when we run to Dr's offices for her or us we have my son keep
an eye on things while we're gone. My daughter has moved to Philly (Oracle) so it's great that he's living here.

Yup, good that you have your son there with you... :) And also very
good that her aides take care of the bulk of the extra work she might
    have been for you... :)

ok? She said, Oh yes, _certainly_ and then said, 'you should see all
the amazing things that Janis cooks here!' I smiled at that, it was
funny to see her bragging to them about my cooking :)
And nice that she is obviously appreciative of your cooking...

Oh yeah, one thing this lady appreciates is good food LOL I'm glad she does really :) She and I are planning the apple/pumpkin pies right now that I'll make this fall :)

Will she at least keep you company in the kitchen while you make
them...? Are you planning fancy versions...?

I'm sure that living with you and having good meals cooked for her and
good company to eat them with has done a lot for keeping her in good health... failure to thrive is such a problem usually for the very elderly...

One of the meals-on-wheels coordinators always says how wonderful
things are for her here. That's good I think. Meals-on-wheels sends a lady to make sure the food we get for Aunt Gert is ok with her :)

Do they supply some backup meals for her...? or just make sure you are
    feeding her well....

I always have greek yogurt here as well.. I make it in my Instant Pot,
it is so good and so easy.. :) I'll post more about that here in
    another message.
Sounds like you need to get back to posting... ;)

    I'm getting there Lol

Yup... good thing... and I did see your post on making the yogurt... :)

    Hi Nancy,

some kind of weird rash on her tummy (like bad reaction to something
outside or to her flea med,etc.).. I'm hoping for their sake they can

Oh, I know how nutso life can get... I remember Indy and Sophie... hope
    they are easily treated... :)

We'll see tomorrow. This will be the first time to see this vet, he's a tad closer than our old one. I hope he's cool.. We decided the trip to Ithaca from
Slaterville Springs was just too much right now (we're tired Lol) The difference in travel time isn't that extensive.. but it IS closer than going to
    Ithaca <g>

Yup, good that you have your son there with you... :) And also very
good that her aides take care of the bulk of the extra work she might
    have been for you... :)

The aides are great, it's true. More than once the aides have been there say when something really had to be cleaned up eh.. immediately, and thoroughly.. you know, unintentional 'accidents'. We understand it happening, she's very very old. And just taking care of washing her bedroom floor, keeping in clean,
is very very helpful. It's not especially cheap having them come 3x a week, but it's necessary. That leaves me to generally take care of the kitchen, and that's fine with me :)

Oh yeah, one thing this lady appreciates is good food LOL I'm glad she
does really :) She and I are planning the apple/pumpkin pies right now
that I'll make this fall :)

Will she at least keep you company in the kitchen while you make
them...? Are you planning fancy versions...?

Some, I'm sure. Her room is right next to the kitchen doorway <g> She was there today while I was scraping pumpkin from the baked shells :)

I took a picture of this pumpkin because it suddenly was 'noticed' by Ron and I
kind of out of the blue the other day... we'd just missed it beforehand obviously.. I remembered tossing some seeds from a previous 'pumpkin bake' out in the garden area, never figuring they'd take.. but voila.. there it was :) :)

    https://tinyurl.com/y7bhswjp

I can't remember if you can view photos, but if you can there's the pic I took.. The one in the front is guy from my garden :) The others were ones Ron picked up for me at Wegmans... As you can see no doubt, my pumpkin is the one that is 'better, faster, stronger' Lol

One of the meals-on-wheels coordinators always says how wonderful
things are for her here. That's good I think. Meals-on-wheels sends a
lady to make sure the food we get for Aunt Gert is ok with her :)

Do they supply some backup meals for her...? or just make sure you are feeding her well....

They deliver 1 dinner every weekday for her. They send a menu that she can can
pick from, say for the next month. Originally I asked them to deliver meals twice a day (figuring lunch and dinner) in case I didn't have the energy to make those meals for her every day.. but it turned out to be too much food in the house :) :) so I asked them to only deliver one meal every day, Mon-Fri. So.. I always have a lunch for her no matter what, and either I make dinner every night, or we order out.. Oh and Ron actually made a sous vide steak a couple of times <grin>

But...Meals-on-Wheels is a great service. The fees for their service here are totally voluntary. I could give them nothing if I couldn't afford it, but of course I send them a check once a month because we can, and because I appreciate what they do so much!

Yup... good thing... and I did see your post on making the yogurt... :)

Yeah.. it's so easy to do with that darn instant pot, I have to laugh.. no more
feisting with thermometer, temperature levels.. all that 'stuff' hehe.. just great Greek Yogurt :)

    Take care,

    Hi Nancy,

tired Lol) The difference in travel time isn't that extensive.. but it
IS closer than going to Ithaca <g>

And how did it go...? Did the dogs like the new vet...? and was he
    able to help them....?

It was great.. the man is fantastic. He's a farmer in Candor, NY, who is also a vet, (he has to take care of his own animals :)). He was talking to us about
his practice being a little um.. nonstandard.. for instance he said there have been times when his cows get loose, and he's got to cancel app'ts to go round up cows Lol. He's a neat guy, we like him, the dogs didn't object and even let
him clip their nails (thank god.. it's a trip for me to try to do it :) )

He scheduled Indy for surgery for his cyst in two weeks, and took care of all their flea problems, thank goodness... He treated sophie's rash with something immediate and also gave her an antibiotic because of the cuts she's given herself.. (I was glad he was so thorough).

and thoroughly.. you know, unintentional 'accidents'. We understand it
    happening, she's very very old.

Lola and Lulu are still here :) Lulu has become more of an actual "pet" Lol..
I mean compared to how feral they all were in the beginning :) She actually likes to sit on the couch with us... not touching, but she is -there- (it's something Lol)

    who knows? :)

He'll probably help you figure out some way to get the cats to him... :)

So you are down to just two cats...? Which two...?

Lola and Lulu are still here :) Lulu has become more of an actual
"pet" Lol.. I mean compared to how feral they all were in the
beginning :) She actually likes to sit on the couch with us... not touching, but she is -there- (it's something Lol)

It IS something... :) One of our current ones who was very spookish
when she first came here (she and her littermate sister had been
originally feral, then adopted by a 'feeding station" lady who died and
her daughter had 6 cats to re-home) has now gotten to the point that she actually demands attention and pettings... we've had them for maybe four
years now... She still easily spooks, though... so the name we gave her
is still appropriate... Spook... :) Her sister is Shadow... they both
follow Richard around like puppies... ;) (Originally Spook was G.G.
for Granny's Girl, and Shadow was Sweetpea... they didn't seem to want
those names so we came up with more appropriate use names... [g])

A bonus plant... :) Did it seed true...?
Sure did.. it was a great fresh organic pumpkin Lol
    Neat... :)
Yes, was really cool.. Ron figures that section of the yard will be
good for a pumpkin patch, so we'll do that in the spring.
And then you'll have more pumpkins than you know what to do with, come fall... ;)

There are more than just pumpkins we can plant in that spot that will
work with them being planted 'nearby'.. Some plants just don't get
    along with certain others :)

    There you go... :)

    Hi Nancy,

Maybe do them one at a time...? I don't suppose that he'd be willing to

That is one possibility of course, but just for me, I'd rather get the two fuzz-balls in there at once <grin>... I don't doubt his office will suggest one
at a time as well though :)

make a home visit... ;) You never know, he might be a cat whisperer

There is a vet in the Ithaca area that makes home visits, we had her come before when Toby, our black lab, was so very very ill. He had cancer of the stomach, poor doggie.. Anyway, we did have her come over for Toby and she was a
good vet.. she of course had to refer us to Veterinarian surgeons for anything
    beyond exams, shots, etc.

I'll talk to him again next Friday when Indy goes in for his surgery.

haha... I can picture it, as I've seen that kind of demand for attention and being pet :) Lola is that way. She was the first one to really lose her 'feral nature'. It's funny though, as soon as someone comes to the house though, they RUN and hide... This week the people from Meals-on-Wheels came to check with Ron's aunt to see if the meals were good for her, etc. and poof, they were gone! Both kitties, no where to be seen. This week, I made pizza for all of us, but I tried a new idea that Mike Chen from 'Strickly Dumpling' mentioned. He took a trip to Naples Italy, and found that pizza there was exquisite (of course <vbg>). He found one well known pizza restaurant that covers the pizza dough with pistachio pesta before filling it with other incredibly great toppings... so I had to try that. It was
    so good :)

    ===
    Pistachio Pesto

    1/2 c Pistachios meats
    1 c Basil leaves
    3-4 tbsp Heavy cream organic
    2 tbsp Parmigiano reggiano grated
3 tbsp extra virgin Olive oil
    Sea salt to taste
    1 clove garlic grated

In the bowl of a small food processor purée together the pistachios, basil,
    olive oil and cream.
Transfer to a bowl and stir in the garlic and parmigiana reggianno
    cheese.
Adjust seasonings to your taste with sea salt.
Depending on the texture and your taste add more cream if desired.

We'll get there eventually... not real soon though. Today Indy had surgery to remove a very large cyst on his chest.. poor baby.. The vet said it certainly looked cancerous but he was pretty sure he got 'all' of it (I know what he means there...) I didn't have him test it. He said if it grows back we'll deal with it then. This one that was removed today took about 4 years to get to the
size it was (very small fist size).. It didn't affect him in terms of movement, etc. so that was something. I'm just hoping the surgery doesn't make
it spread elsewhere if it was cancerous... which is really why I put off having the surgery until now. I sure don't want to go through what we went through with Toby and his stomach cancer. That was horrific and nothing you could do...

That sounds like a real 'mobile vet' :) This one that came mostly likes to treat geriatric dogs if you know what I mean.. :) She really can't do much more
than give shots and exams. She doesn't travel with any kind of surgical equipment, but given how close Cornell is, I guess that makes sense. I guess it also makes sense that all of the vets up here that we've met have been graduates of Cornell Veterinary School.. <g>

wasn't sure he could save her, but he did, and she bounced back beautifully... and lived another nine-plus years....

That is so really good to hear :) I'm happy to hear about good vet/pet stories
right now ... what a day it's been.

    none of the kittens
    survived, though....

Ah that's too bad.. did the mom reject them? I had a mom cat that did that once
to her litter.. I could never figure out why she did that.. but they all died.
Then later she had another litter and they were all fine. Weird.

I'll talk to him again next Friday when Indy goes in for his surgery.
    who knows? :)
He'll probably help you figure out some way to get the cats to him... :)

Well needless to say, we didn't talk about cats this visit.. it was so somber given Indy's surgery... The cats can wait.. :)

attention and being pet :) Lola is that way. She was the first one to

Yes, and some way high up.. top of hutches, etc...just in case they have to attack from space (bombardier's Lol)

these guys as they seemed fitting :) And boy did each of them know
their names well :) I remember when we got them home and realized how
each of them really knew their names so well, it was uncanny :)

Yes.. sexy Lola.. Big Girl LULU (lol).. Leo the Lion, and madwoman-huntress-Lizzy-Borden. They got each of their personalities down for sure :)

were able to build up the rapport with the animals... :) What happened
to the rest of the cats...?

Lizzy moved in with a neighbor in Windsor (probably because that woman gave her
canned cat food she told me :) ), Leo took off when we moved from Windsor, but
we had a woman with cat-trap catch him in Windsor.. then when we got to Slaterville Springs he stuck around for a few years and then left for good. I hope he just took off.. we never saw or heard of any 'dead yellow tiger kitties' in the area.. and as I mentioned, the other two are here....

This week, I made pizza for all of us, but I tried a new idea that
Mike Chen from 'Strickly Dumpling' mentioned. He took a trip to Naples

toppings... so I had to try that. It was so good :)

Is that instead of any tomato sauce, or in addition to it...? It does
    look pretty good.... :)

You prepare the dough as usual, then after you get it stretched in the pizza pan, you plop a dollop of pistachio pesto on the dough, and smooth it around the surface.. then you can add halved cherry tomatoes, mozzarella, garlic salt,
pepper, anchovies, etc., or tomato pizza sauce, mozzarella, onions, anchovies (my favorite :)), garlic salt, pepper ...

Here's the dough recipe I use.. I forget where I got it from. I love to use for
    pizza.. it's incredibly good.

    ===
    1.5 cups 115 degree water
    2.25 tsp quick rise yeast
    1 tsp sugar .......... I always skip this <g>
    1 tbsp olive oil
    1/2 tsp salt
1.5 cups semolina flour (10 oz)
1.5 cups bread flour (7.5 oz)

    Directions

In a measuring cup or bowl, combine the water, yeast, and sugar. Give it a stir and let it sit for 10 minutes, until the liquid gets bubbly.
Place the measuring cup liquid mixture, olive oil, salt, semolina flour, and bread flour in the bowl of a stand mixer and use the dough hook to stir it together, until it's roughly combined. Fit the mixer with the dough hook and knead on medium low speed for about 10 minutes, until the dough is smooth. The dough will be a little bit sticky, and that's fine. Cover the bowl with a lid or plastic wrap and let it sit for 2 hours, until the dough doubles in size.
Remove the dough to a floured board and shape it into a ball. It can now be rolled out and baked as desired. I like to split the dough into two halves since I like a thinner crust. I bake my pizzas in a 500 degree oven with toppings and sauce for about 15-20 minutes.
    ===

The Semolina flour makes such a difference when used with bread flour.. :)

    Take care,
    Janis

knocked up by a larger male... she was huge when pregnant, and it turned
out there were only 3 very large kittens in there... all bundled in

    Hi Nancy,

Get it over with once and for all... ;) It would make sense though to
bring one at a time if you have difficulty getting both of them into the
carrier when the time comes.... ;)

We'll get there eventually... not real soon though.

You're going to wait on them until Indy heals...?

Until I don't have so many things going on, I guess. Indy is a big part of that
right now of course... he's doing well though, all in all.

sure he got 'all' of it (I know what he means there...) I didn't have
him test it. He said if it grows back we'll deal with it then.

He thinks he got good margins all around, then...? And hopefully it was still well contained and hadn't been moving elsewhere....

Well, he had two cysts the vet removed that day... the larger on his chest I mentioned earlier, and a smaller (but noticible) one on his right foreleg. As I
said, we'll watch him and go from here.

doesn't make it spread elsewhere if it was cancerous... which is

I know... hopefully this will be different....

    Yep, that's what I'm hoping.

That sounds like a real 'mobile vet' :) This one that came mostly
likes to treat geriatric dogs if you know what I mean.. :) She really
can't do much more than give shots and exams. She doesn't travel with
any kind of surgical equipment, but given how close Cornell is, I guess
    that makes sense.

    In some ways, anyway...

Agree there... I had hoped she would be more, I don't know.. Mobile-Vet-ish Lol
When we lived in Windsor we had the greatest vet and he WAS a great 'mobil-vet'. He traveled to our house in Windsor with his dog-vet-mobile <grin>.. Much later, I called his office and asked him if he'd make the extra mileage trip to Slaterville Springs (he was an absolutely great vet!!), but he said no, he wouldn't come this far darn it. I understand really though.. it's quite a jaunt to get up here...

none of the kittens survived, though....

Ah that's too bad.. did the mom reject them? I had a mom cat that did
that once to her litter.. I could never figure out why she did that..
but they all died. Then later she had another litter and they were all
    fine. Weird.

She didn't get a chance to reject them... none of them survived
birthing, their necks were broken as she tried to push them out.... she

eek, that is horrible, but that's nature I guess.

these guys as they seemed fitting :) And boy did each of them know
their names well :) I remember when we got them home and realized how
each of them really knew their names so well, it was uncanny :)
I guess the shelter workers had a good sense for naming, then... and

Yes.. sexy Lola.. Big Girl LULU (lol).. Leo the Lion, and
madwoman-huntress-Lizzy-Borden. They got each of their personalities
    down for sure :)

    Sounds like... :)

It still astounds me when I realize how well they knew each of the kitties <g>

were able to build up the rapport with the animals... :) What happened
to the rest of the cats...?

Lizzy moved in with a neighbor in Windsor (probably because that woman
gave her canned cat food she told me :) ), Leo took off when we moved
from Windsor, but we had a woman with cat-trap catch him in Windsor..
then when we got to Slaterville Springs he stuck around for a few years
and then left for good. I hope he just took off.. we never saw or
heard of any 'dead yellow tiger kitties' in the area.. and as I
mentioned, the other two are here....

I remember Leo from the second Slaterville Springs picnic.... :) Maybe
    he decided he missed Windsor...

Yeah, he was a beautiful kitty... he looked very much like a Maine Coon Cat, with his 'lion' mane, extremely long body and very long tail :)

I still have these pictures of them online...

pistachio pesta before filling it with other incredibly great
toppings... so I had to try that. It was so good :)
Is that instead of any tomato sauce, or in addition to it...? It does
    look pretty good.... :)

You prepare the dough as usual, then after you get it stretched in the
pizza pan, you plop a dollop of pistachio pesto on the dough, and
smooth it around the surface.. then you can add halved cherry tomatoes,
mozzarella, garlic salt, pepper, anchovies, etc., or tomato pizza
sauce, mozzarella, onions, anchovies (my favorite :)), garlic salt,
    pepper ...

I'd be inclined to omit the tomato sauce.... halved cherry tomatoes
instead sounds a bit better.... :)

I had a bunch of cherry tomatoes from my little indoor gardens (Aerogarden) so that was great, they were soooooo sweet :) Right now I have 3 of them going. They are so neat to have as fall is def. here now and winter is around the corner.

    Roasted Cherry Tomato Pasta
    6 cups halved cherry tomatoes
    4 cloves garlic minced
    3 tablespoons olive oil
    2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
    1/2 teaspoon dried basil
    1/2 teaspoon oregano
salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
1 lb refrigerated pasta or use boxed if you prefer

    Instructions

    Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
Gently toss all ingredients (except the pasta). Place on a foil lined pan and roast at 425 degrees for 15 minutes or until softened. Broil 1-2 minutes to add
a little bit of char/color once softened.

Meanwhile, in large pot of boiling salted water, cook pasta until tender but firm. Drain (do not rinse) and place in a large bowl. Add tomatoes (and any pan
juices) to the pasta and toss to combine. Serve and garnish with fresh herbs and parmesan cheese.

    GARNISH
1/4 cup sliced fresh basil 1/3 cup parmesan cheese

Get it over with once and for all... ;) It would make sense though to
bring one at a time if you have difficulty getting both of them into the
carrier when the time comes.... ;)
We'll get there eventually... not real soon though.
You're going to wait on them until Indy heals...?

Until I don't have so many things going on, I guess. Indy is a big
part of that right now of course... he's doing well though, all in all.

I'm sure the cats don't mind at all... (G)

sure he got 'all' of it (I know what he means there...) I didn't have
him test it. He said if it grows back we'll deal with it then.
He thinks he got good margins all around, then...? And hopefully it was still well contained and hadn't been moving elsewhere....

Well, he had two cysts the vet removed that day... the larger on his
chest I mentioned earlier, and a smaller (but noticible) one on his
right foreleg. As I said, we'll watch him and go from here.

Hopefully it won't grow back or have spread...

doesn't make it spread elsewhere if it was cancerous... which is
really why I put off having the surgery until now.
Generally when a cancer is encysted and contained, it can be removed
without having it spread just due to the surgery.... especially if the
    cyst isn't broken into...

Yeah, unfortunately the vet didn't go into it with Ron to that degree.

Oh yeah, they would be happy if they NEVER went to the vet haha...

The first few days after Indy's surgery were just a trip though. For some reason Sophie totally freaked out every time I put the big 'collar' on Indy - you know, the thing the vet gives you to keep the animal from licking or chewing the stitches?... she totally went bonkers, growling and snarling at poor Indy if I left it on him! It was a little unnerving <bg> Ron scolded her and she then acted so embarrassed (I'm sorry, I'm sorry I'm sorry!!!) <Laugh>

Finally though the bandages all came off, the wounds now look well healed, and Indy is mostly back to his old self. I won't let him jump and play much yet, just a few weeks of going easy is probably a good idea for him. He never lost his appetite so that is also good <bg>

Yep, that's my hope. I'm so glad the dog's appetite is good. He acts like he'd
like to play ball (he's such a goof <g>).. he picks up his ball and brings it over to me, but I just toss it gently to him.. I don't want him doing the big jumps up in the air like he did before the surgery yet...

Instant Pot Hot and Sour Soup

It is a delightfully easy to make soup that will warm your soul with Asian flavors. Easy to make, healthy and incredibly delicious.

    Ingredients
16 oz of fresh Shiitake mushrooms sliced
    or 2oz dried Shiitake mushrooms
14 oz extra firm tofu cut into cubes
8 oz can of bamboo shoots drained
2 tablespoon Asian sweet chili sauce
    1 tablespoon minced garlic
    1 tablespoon minced ginger
    1 teaspoon ground white pepper
    2 tablespoon white granulated sugar
2 tablespoon Rice or White vinegar
1/4 cup low sodium Soy Sauce
1 tablespoon garlic Chili paste optional
8 cups vegetable broth or water
3 large eggs cracked and whisked
    4 cups fresh spinach optional
    5 Scallions sliced

    Cornstarch Slurry:
    2 tablespoons cornstarch
    2 tablespoons water

    Instructions
If using dried shiitake mushrooms: Place mushrooms in a medium bowl and cover with hot water for 30 minutes. Drain liquid and thinly slice.

Add to the Instant Pot: mushrooms, tofu, bamboo shoots, garlic, Asian sweet chili sauce, garlic, ginger, white pepper, sugar, rice vinegar, soy sauce, garlic chili paste and vegetable stock.
Lock on Lid and point Pressure Valve to Sealed.
Cook at High Pressure for 5 minutes. When the Instant Pot beeps, do a 10 minute Natural Pressure Release and then manually release the rest of the pressure.
Select the Sauté mode. Add a few drops of oil to the beaten egg and whisk to combine.
When the soup begins to bubble, pour the beaten eggs into the middle of the cooking pot. Wait for a few seconds and then stir the egg mixture in a circular
motion slowly a couple of times.

If you want the soup to be thicker, mix cornstarch and water in a small bowl until fully combined. Add the mixture to the pot and gently stir, let it simmer for 1-2 minutes. If you want the soup even more thick, add another of 1 tablespoon of cornstarch mixed with water. The soup will also thicken slightly after it cools off thanks to the cornstarch mixture.

Turn off the Instant Pot. Add the spinach to the pot and stir to combine. Add 1/2 the sliced scallions and stir.

For extra sour flavor, add one more tablespoon of vinegar at the end.
    Serve garnished with scallions.

Maybe Sophie was just jealous of Indy's new "hat"??

heheh.. could be.. I really thought she didn't like that he was getting so much
more attention (or at least she perceived things that way <g>) I don't think she's ever had to wear one of those things.. so maybe she was just plain jealous as you mention :) :)

This week, the caregiver who comes here several times a week told me she is Italian (She is not sure at all where her mother's and grandmother's family are
from in Italy). She'd come to give Ron's aunt a shower since this week was kind of crazy schedule-wise for everyone involved. We were just sitting down to dinner (Lasagna) so of course I asked her if she'd like some :) She said 'of course yes!!' and so we all laughed and enjoyed our meal together. She was wowed by the dinner (sauce, meatballs, lasagna, etc.) so she asked me for recipes! I said sure, one sec.. and printed them out since I had them for one of picnics from the Cooking echo.. that was so neat. She repayed me with details of an Italian market just about 15 minutes away from here that I'd never heard of, it looks GREAT :) https://sopranosmarket.com/ Here's one of my recipes I gave her:

    ===
    Lasagna al Forno

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

1 pound lasagna noodles homemade or store bought, cooked al dente
1 quart or more of one of the tomato or meat sauces 2 pounds ricotta cheese
    2 eggs
1 pound mozzarella cheese, cubed or sliced 1/2 cup grated locatelli romano cheese or parmesean (according to your taste) 2 Tablespoons fresh parsley

Mix the ricotta cheese, eggs, parsley and grated locatelli cheese. Salt and pepper if desired.

Cover the bottom of a baking dish, 13x9x2, with sauce. Put a layer of lasagna noodles over the sauce, overlapping the side edges of the noodles.

Using a ladle, put some sauce on the noodles, spread it around the noodles. Put
about 3/4 cup to 1 cup of the ricotta mixture on the noodles, dotting the lasagna noodles with tablespoons of the cheese. Some cooks prefer spreading a cup of the ricotta mixture evenly on the noodles. I prefer to dot the noodles with ricotta in 9 areas of the noodles, 3 across and 3 down, about a tablespoon
in size and 2-3 inches apart.

Scatter about 1/4 of the mozzarella cheese slices on the ricotta. Cover the cheese with more sauce. Place another layer of lasagna noodles on top of the sauce. Cover the noodles with sauce, then ricotta cheese, mozzarella, sauce, then noodles, etc. Finish the top layer with lasagna noodles and sauce.

Cover the lasagna with aluminum foil and bake covered for 35 minutes. Remove the aluminum foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes. Allow the lasagna to sit for 15 minutes before cutting.

    Take care,

    Hi Nancy,

We'll get there eventually... not real soon though.
You're going to wait on them until Indy heals...?
Until I don't have so many things going on, I guess. Indy is a big
part of that right now of course... he's doing well though, all in all.
I'm sure the cats don't mind at all... (G)

Oh yeah, they would be happy if they NEVER went to the vet haha...

Exactly. :) Once they get there, though, sounds like they might
    actually like this vet.... :)

I dunno.. In my mind, this litter was so unused to people and things-people, it
blew me away.. It took Lulu 7 years to sit on the couch with us (without us touching her Lol).. last night was a real breakthrough night. She has sat on the couch a few time with us... but last night she sat on the couch where Ron and I were sitting, and kept snooting me.. I was shocked.. but tried to not make a big deal of it haha.. Now if she sat on my lap, I'd be in heaven, but that's not yet.. at least I can hope though.

The first few days after Indy's surgery were just a trip though. For
some reason Sophie totally freaked out every time I put the big
'collar' on Indy - you know, the thing the vet gives you to keep the
animal from licking or chewing the stitches?... she totally went
bonkers, growling and snarling at poor Indy if I left it on him! It was
a little unnerving <bg> Ron scolded her and she then acted so
    embarrassed (I'm sorry, I'm sorry I'm sorry!!!) <Laugh>

Animals really don't like those things, even though they are probably necessary... and it certainly would have made Sophie nervous to see Indy looking so strange... Poor girl.... Maybe she was just growling at the monster that was trying to eat poor Indy.... not at Indy himself....

Yes, that is what I thought as well!! I was sure as a matter of fact that she was growling at the collar.. it was a trip. So what I did was, I took the collar off Indy. He couldn't reach the incision on his chest (that was the big
one) so I knew that would be ok, but he sure could reach the one on his right foreleg... I found a really big bandaid (huge size, I swear we have the most inane things here <g>) and put that on his wound on his foreleg so he couldn't 'eat' it. I cut off the big bandage on his chest after 3 days, so it was just a partial thing.. Thankfully that fell off by itself at some point. and right after that essentially, the bandaid fell off his foreleg. What a relief, and no "alian collar critter thingy" Lol

Finally though the bandages all came off, the wounds now look well
healed, and Indy is mostly back to his old self. I won't let him jump
and play much yet, just a few weeks of going easy is probably a good
idea for him. He never lost his appetite so that is also good <bg>
Very good on his appetite.... :)

Yes, I was so so relieved that he didn't have intestinal problems.. but that was because I was remembering poor Toby's stomach cancer.. geez. I also know that it's important to walk and eat, etc. after surgery so that is what I was watching with him. I was so glad he thought about food Lol

Did he have internal stitches as well
as external ones....? Good that the wounds look well healed... that's a promising sign... :)

I'm sure he did. The vet said he had to clean out a lot of the cancer that was
there. He didn't mention any of that though.

him test it. He said if it grows back we'll deal with it then.
He thinks he got good margins all around, then...? And hopefully it
was still well contained and hadn't been moving elsewhere....
Well, he had two cysts the vet removed that day... the larger on his
chest I mentioned earlier, and a smaller (but noticible) one on his
right foreleg. As I said, we'll watch him and go from here.
Hopefully it won't grow back or have spread...

Yep, that's my hope. I'm so glad the dog's appetite is good. He acts
like he'd like to play ball (he's such a goof <g>).. he picks up his
ball and brings it over to me, but I just toss it gently to him.. I
don't want him doing the big jumps up in the air like he did before
    the surgery yet...

Probably wise.... but it would appear that he's feeling pretty good
    now.... ;)

Oh yeah.. he's funny.. he brings me his ball, but I won't toss it up in the air
yet.. I roll it to him, he runs to fetch it... and brings it right back to me .. he knows it will hurt to jump up in the air and so he doesn't.. Perfect for now.

Yeah, unfortunately the vet didn't go into it with Ron to that degree.
I'm mostly going on what I've picked up from friends and family having
    cancer surgeries....

Understand.. same here really.. and previous doggie surgeries .. I
think if I'd asked the vet to test the mass for the type of cell that
might have been different though. I didn't see any point in that.

It gets into a cost/benefit situation... I don't think we had the vet

Yeah and I figured really, it didn't matter. He's not a young'un.. he's about 6 or 7 years old? actually darn, maybe 9 or 10..

test for what sort of cell when Sunny had the ropy cancer on her back...
just had it removed the first time....

he WAS a great 'mobil-vet'. He traveled to our house in Windsor with
his dog-vet-mobile <grin>.. Much later, I called his office and asked
him if he'd make the extra mileage trip to Slaterville Springs (he was
an absolutely great vet!!), but he said no, he wouldn't come this far
darn it. I understand really though.. it's quite a jaunt to get up
    here...
Yeah, it's understandable... but it's tough to lose a good vet....

Sure is. That's why I was glad to find Dr. Ober.. he is a great vet.
I'm so glad I thought to ask one of the people who have lived in this
area a long time about 'a good vet'.. we were fortunate in finding
    him :)

    Indeed. :)

She didn't get a chance to reject them... none of them survived
birthing, their necks were broken as she tried to push them out....
eek, that is horrible, but that's nature I guess.
Yeah... she wasn't trying to kill them, just to birth them.... and
nearly died herself in the process...

Of course, and it is so sad when things like that happen.

Yup. She was my first really-mine kitty... I was glad she survived...

I still have these pictures of them online...
    http://www.filegate.net/gallery/cats/index.1024px.html
Just click on the kitty name ... checking this link tonight cracked me
up... Lizzie truly looks so evil <vbg> And leo looks majestic for
    sure.
    I'll try to take a look... :)

I looked at them again tonight, good grief I couldn't stop laughing at
    those faces :)

Those must have been taken while you were still at Windsor....? Cute
pics.. ;) and yes, Lizzie does look evil....stalking like that... ;)

Yes in Windsor.. and I am now gonna laugh so hard about Lizzie... that's what killed me about the shelter naming those little kittens so accurately... Lizzie
WAS the hunter of the litter :)

I had a bunch of cherry tomatoes from my little indoor gardens
(Aerogarden) so that was great, they were soooooo sweet :) Right now I
have 3 of them going. They are so neat to have as fall is def. here now
and winter is around the corner.
You should be able to keep them going through the winter....? That's a
very nice thing to have... :)

Yep.. I have tomatoes and peppers in the living room, and beet greens
    in the Kitchen <grin>

Just greens....? It doesn't grow the beets themselves....?

What I purchased were beet greens, not beets. I know that sounds silly but you
can buy all kinds of Kale.. and I think this is a version of Kale that is red veined, without the beets.. though maybe I keep one of the going to see if any beets appear?? Lol

I was thinking of getting just one more ... Lol

And what would you grow in it....? :) Herbs, maybe....?

Nah, got that already.. I would grow a variety of Lettuce if I got one more. I
had a bunch of lettuce already, but they are done :)

    Take care,

Wow... :) Was she wanting a bit of petting, maybe...? :) Maybe she
figured you were giving so much tp Indy, she wanted her share... (G)

Our Spook has finally discovered (at least once in a while, and on her
terms, of course) Richard's lap... she's been demanding petting now for
a while, from both of us... and on occasion now, while Richard's

    Hi Nancy,

Exactly. :) Once they get there, though, sounds like they might
    actually like this vet.... :)

I dunno.. In my mind, this litter was so unused to people and
things-people, it blew me away.. It took Lulu 7 years to sit on the

that once you get them there, they'll be willing to give him a chance... besides, he might be a cat whisperer, and they'll just take to him.. :)

True.. though all I saw at the vet's office so far were other dogs. Now we haven't been there that many times yet of course so who knows, next time we may
    see a cat. :)

I were sitting, and kept snooting me.. I was shocked.. but tried to
not make a big deal of it haha.. Now if she sat on my lap, I'd be in
heaven, but that's not yet.. at least I can hope though.

Wow... :) Was she wanting a bit of petting, maybe...? :)

First she came over and sat on the couch where I was sitting, and started snooting me, then she hopped on the arm of the couch and just started purring. I couldn't believe this, I kept saying to Ron, look at this - look at this.. haha Then I did pet her for small bit.. then she jumped down hehe It was incredible though.

    Maybe she
figured you were giving so much tp Indy, she wanted her share... (G)

That is possible... I think all the animals could tell Indy had been through a rough situation, and I think I've mentioned this before.. I think they could all tell when I was worried, bothered, etc. with everything concerning Indy...

Our Spook has finally discovered (at least once in a while, and on her
terms, of course) Richard's lap... she's been demanding petting now for
a while, from both of us... and on occasion now, while Richard's
complying, she'll sort of ease herself onto the lap to be just a little
    more available or something...

Does Spook feel more comfy with you both lately, or do you think something is bothering her? I've had some cats get close for both reasons in all the years I've had cats..

Her sister had claimed the lap quite a
while back.. we kid and say she decided that she wanted her fair share
    now... ;)

haha.. well that's not a bad reason at least :)

Animals really don't like those things, even though they are probably
necessary... and it certainly would have made Sophie nervous to see Indy
looking so strange... Poor girl.... Maybe she was just growling at the

put that on his wound on his foreleg so he couldn't 'eat' it.

    Good solution... :)

It was mostly good. Unfortunately, the first time I did that, I got some of his fur trapped in the bandaid edges.. and he let me know when I tried to pull that one off...(ouch)...so I had to keep putting water on it to get it to 'fall
off' so I didn't have to yank off his fur.. he would NOT have liked that <g>

I cut off the big bandage on his chest after 3 days, so it was just a
partial thing.. Thankfully that fell off by itself at some point. and
right after that essentially, the bandaid fell off his foreleg. What a
relief, and no "alian collar critter thingy" Lol

Guess you all weathered that fine then... :)

Just a couple of misteps really like the first time I had to change that first big bandaid I put on his foreleg. Thankfully he doesn't need any of that now.

idea for him. He never lost his appetite so that is also good <bg>
Very good on his appetite.... :)

Yes, I was so so relieved that he didn't have intestinal problems..

He was healing quickly... always a good sign...

Yes, very true. And also very good that he is back to trying to steal food from everyone in the house in his best yellow-lab way Lol It is really funny how that was something that did just start again recently. It was like his body said, "Ok, I've waited long enough.. back to being a THEIF!" haha

Did he have internal stitches as well
as external ones....? Good that the wounds look well healed... that's a

Yes, all the stitches he had, on his chest, his forarm and internally around his chest were the kind that melted. He did not have to have any stitches removed. I was SO glad when the vet mentioned that to us :) I'm SO squemish..

anyway... so he might not have thought to tell you, especially if
neither you nor Ron asked specifically... :)

Hopefully it won't grow back or have spread...
Yep, that's my hope. I'm so glad the dog's appetite is good. He acts

    Then he's also self-regulating... also a good thing... :)

I don't think he wants to test how it will feel to jump yet, that is fine by me. He just started running some, I don't let him do that much yet.. just sometimes now he DOES run to door, that kind of thing.. That's ok. I don't let him run crazy outside yet. He'll get there. It really was a major surgery
for the boy (er.. old man <g> or .. is he a young man?? Lol.. not sure how to
    judge ages with him haha).

It gets into a cost/benefit situation... I don't think we had the vet

Yep.. I have tomatoes and peppers in the living room, and beet greens
    in the Kitchen <grin>
Just greens....? It doesn't grow the beets themselves....?

What I purchased were beet greens, not beets. I know that sounds
silly but you can buy all kinds of Kale.. and I think this is a version
of Kale that is red veined, without the beets.. though maybe I keep one
of the going to see if any beets appear?? Lol

Ah... maybe they need dirt to form the root bulb...? Or maybe it's just
a form of kale that looks like the green tops of beets,,,,/.

Yeah, could be either, they never give you much information with these aerogarden pods (plastic tubes that hold the sprout that grows into the plant).
For instance, the beet greens say just that, "beet greens" on their box.. nothing more :) :)

I was thinking of getting just one more ... Lol
And what would you grow in it....? :) Herbs, maybe....?

Nah, got that already.. I would grow a variety of Lettuce if I got one
more. I had a bunch of lettuce already, but they are done :)

You have to keep reseeding them in the hydro gardens, then....? :)

Yes, for instance so far one garden planter that was growing varieties of Basil
(Italian, and Thai Basil) finished up, so we removed all the dead stuff, washed it really well, sterilized it, and then planted Beet Greens in it.. With
these aerogardens, you want to make sure there are no bacteria growing from dead plants, etc. Just like you would do if you were repotting a house plant.

The next one that will be cleaned out (since it will be totally 'done' growing)
is the cherry-tomato planting.. I'll be planting a second planting in that garden as well, but with fresh plants of 5 types of greens (various lettuce and other greens plants). I just ordered the greens on Amazon a few days ago so they should be here tomorrow :)

My Peppers are probably the next bunch that will finish - I think I'll just plant more peppers.. they are SO sweet and good :)

I haven't bought or planted any hot ones, not my thing.. <grin>

    Take care,
    Janis

Exactly. :) Once they get there, though, sounds like they might
    actually like this vet.... :)
I dunno.. In my mind, this litter was so unused to people and
things-people, it blew me away.. It took Lulu 7 years to sit on the
couch with us (without us touching her Lol)..
Just have to be patient with them... ;) They might be calmed enough
that once you get them there, they'll be willing to give him a chance... besides, he might be a cat whisperer, and they'll just take to him.. :)

True.. though all I saw at the vet's office so far were other dogs.
Now we haven't been there that many times yet of course so who knows,
next time we may see a cat. :)

Perhaps he has dog days and cat days....? with perhaps an exception for families that have both dogs and cats and wish to bring them at the same time....?

I were sitting, and kept snooting me.. I was shocked.. but tried to
not make a big deal of it haha.. Now if she sat on my lap, I'd be in
heaven, but that's not yet.. at least I can hope though.
Wow... :) Was she wanting a bit of petting, maybe...? :)

First she came over and sat on the couch where I was sitting, and
started snooting me, then she hopped on the arm of the couch and just started purring. I couldn't believe this, I kept saying to Ron, look at this - look at this.. haha Then I did pet her for small bit.. then she jumped down hehe It was incredible though.

She's making progress... ;) Especially the purring part... she
obviously was content, and enjoying it... :)

    Maybe she
figured you were giving so much to Indy, she wanted her share... (G)

That is possible... I think all the animals could tell Indy had been through a rough situation, and I think I've mentioned this before.. I think they could all tell when I was worried, bothered, etc. with everything concerning Indy...

Yup... animals do sense our anxieties, just like kids and babies do...
and most likely were just as concerned for Indy as you were, in their
    own ways....

Our Spook has finally discovered (at least once in a while, and on her terms, of course) Richard's lap... she's been demanding petting now for
a while, from both of us... and on occasion now, while Richard's
complying, she'll sort of ease herself onto the lap to be just a little
    more available or something...

Does Spook feel more comfy with you both lately, or do you think
something is bothering her? I've had some cats get close for both
reasons in all the years I've had cats..

It just seems to be that she is settling in to the whole idea of being
safe, and being able to claim attentions... :) Both cats are Richard's "puppies", they tend to follow him and/or tag team him to take care of
things for them... and demand attention from him... To a lesser extent,
they accept, and occasionally demand, attention from me... Neither of
them has gone for sitting in my lap... just his... :)

Her sister had claimed the lap quite a while back.. we kid and say she decided that she wanted her fair share now... ;)

haha.. well that's not a bad reason at least :)

Lately Spook's been taking over Shadow's particular spots... not
totally, and will give them back... but feeling comfortable to just
    branch out... ;)

Yes, that is what I thought as well!! I was sure as a matter of fact
that she was growling at the collar.. it was a trip. So what I did
was, I took the collar off Indy. He couldn't reach the incision on his
chest (that was the big one) so I knew that would be ok, but he sure
could reach the one on his right foreleg... I found a really big
bandaid (huge size, I swear we have the most inane things here <g>) and
put that on his wound on his foreleg so he couldn't 'eat' it.
    Good solution... :)

It was mostly good. Unfortunately, the first time I did that, I got
some of his fur trapped in the bandaid edges.. and he let me know when
I tried to pull that one off...(ouch)...so I had to keep putting water
on it to get it to 'fall off' so I didn't have to yank off his fur.. he would NOT have liked that <g>

Ouch... I guess you were more careful putting on the later bandaids...

Just a couple of misteps really like the first time I had to change
that first big bandaid I put on his foreleg. Thankfully he doesn't
    need any of that now.

    Yup... that's a good thing... :)

idea for him. He never lost his appetite so that is also good <bg>
Very good on his appetite.... :)
Yes, I was so so relieved that he didn't have intestinal problems..
but that was because I was remembering poor Toby's stomach cancer..
geez. I also know that it's important to walk and eat, etc. after
surgery so that is what I was watching with him. I was so glad he
    thought about food Lol
He was healing quickly... always a good sign...

Yes, very true. And also very good that he is back to trying to steal food from everyone in the house in his best yellow-lab way Lol It is really funny how that was something that did just start again recently.
It was like his body said, "Ok, I've waited long enough.. back to
    being a THIEF!" haha

    Getting back to normal... :)

Generally internal stitches just melt away as they are no longer needed,

Yes, all the stitches he had, on his chest, his forarm and internally around his chest were the kind that melted. He did not have to have
any stitches removed. I was SO glad when the vet mentioned that to us
    :) I'm SO squemish..

Also made it so that you didn't have to return to the vet's office to
    get the stitches out..... :)

Oh yeah.. he's funny.. he brings me his ball, but I won't toss it up
in the air yet.. I roll it to him, he runs to fetch it... and brings it
right back to me .. he knows it will hurt to jump up in the air and so
    he doesn't.. Perfect for now.
    Then he's also self-regulating... also a good thing... :)

I don't think he wants to test how it will feel to jump yet, that is
fine by me. He just started running some, I don't let him do that much yet.. just sometimes now he DOES run to door, that kind of thing..
That's ok. I don't let him run crazy outside yet. He'll get there.
It really was a major surgery for the boy (er.. old man <g> or .. is
he a young man?? Lol.. not sure how to judge ages with him haha).

They're always puppies, even when old men... ;) Sounds like he's
    healing apace... ;)

    Yeah and I figured really, it didn't matter. He's not a young'un..
he's about 6 or 7 years old? actually darn, maybe 9 or 10..
    > Getting along there, then... Probably best not to worry about treating
things aggressively... quality of life is important, too... and it's
harder to explain to a dog or cat why the hurtful treatment might make things better in the long run...

Yeah, there isn't an easy way to let them know what is going on, that
    is for sure.

And they can't be in on the decision, as we can't really know what
they'd want.... I guess we just do our best.... :)

Those must have been taken while you were still at Windsor....? Cute
pics.. ;) and yes, Lizzie does look evil....stalking like that... ;)
Yes in Windsor.. and I am now gonna laugh so hard about Lizzie...
that's what killed me about the shelter naming those little kittens so
accurately... Lizzie WAS the hunter of the litter :)
She never came to Slaterville Springs, right...?

No, she didn't. She had moved in with a neighbor of ours in Windsor.
I saw her a few times stalking around that neighborhood after she moved
in with that lady, but I didn't try to take her back.. They were happy with each other and I felt like she'd be ok with that woman.. so that
    was good.

    Yup, that worked out... :)

You should be able to keep them going through the winter....? That's a
very nice thing to have... :)
Yep.. I have tomatoes and peppers in the living room, and beet greens

    Hi Nancy,

True.. though all I saw at the vet's office so far were other dogs.
Now we haven't been there that many times yet of course so who knows,
next time we may see a cat. :)

Perhaps he has dog days and cat days....? with perhaps an exception for families that have both dogs and cats and wish to bring them at the same time....?

Could be, but I don't really know :) It is a very small office... but he is a great vet and I have a feeling he is well known in the immediate area since his
    office was very busy.

First she came over and sat on the couch where I was sitting, and
started snooting me, then she hopped on the arm of the couch and just
started purring. I couldn't believe this, I kept saying to Ron, look at

Yes, that has been apparent to me for many years. I remember once when the German Shepard we had at the time was sitting with me in the kitchen. We had a plumber due to come by. He was late, and I'd been watching for his arrival for a while. He finally arrived.. and then When I handed him a check for his services, my shepard GRABBED his arm by the wrist.. she just held it, didn't bite him, but just HELD it ... I was so surprised, so was the plumber :) :)

reasons in all the years I've had cats..

It just seems to be that she is settling in to the whole idea of being

That is good for a cat.. better than them being indifferent <g> I've seen that
    plenty of times..

    Both cats are Richard's

things for them... and demand attention from him... To a lesser extent,
they accept, and occasionally demand, attention from me... Neither of
them has gone for sitting in my lap... just his... :)

Our kitties were the same way with Ron for a long time. I have no idea why they chenged their minds somewhat, but for a long time they couldn't have cared
less about me it seemed ...Now most recently they bug me for things like food and water. I guess it could be "the indy thing" <g>

Lately Spook's been taking over Shadow's particular spots... not
totally, and will give them back... but feeling comfortable to just
    branch out... ;)

Sounds like a little jealously between the two there maybe? I always have to laugh when I see our two pups do that, and they do it often. And it's both of them, not just one of them. :)

... I took the collar off Indy. He couldn't reach the incision on his
chest (that was the big one) so I knew that would be ok, but he sure

Ouch... I guess you were more careful putting on the later bandaids...

It was a little hard to find a spot on the dog where the hair wouldn't get trapped..but I was able to do that finally.

I cut off the big bandage on his chest after 3 days, so it was just a
partial thing.. Thankfully that fell off by itself at some point. and

that first big bandaid I put on his foreleg. Thankfully he doesn't
    need any of that now.

    Yup... that's a good thing... :)

But it won't be for long. Already I can see another bump on the poor boy where
one of his incisions is.. I haven't called the vet yet, it's very small and I'm
_hoping_ it is just the original wound just normalizing (but it seems too long timewise for that).. I will probably call him this week though while it's still small. I do not want to think about him going back.. he will know as soon as we get in the car what is going on.. geez. I wish there was a different
way to deal with this so he didn't have to get cut again, but I can't think of any other way.

geez. I also know that it's important to walk and eat, etc. after
surgery so that is what I was watching with him. I was so glad he

Now I'm trying to keep him from eating tons of Dog treats so his weight drops a
touch.. He's solid dog, not really fat but I don't want to 'feed' the tumor if that is what is going on now (again) :(

Meanwhile, the dog gets too many treats as it is, and I can't figure a way out of that.. Every Mon/Wed/Sat the aide comes so to keep the dogs from eating the 'help' when they come to door, we give them treats.. These dogs cannot remember ANYONE it kills me..

Yes, all the stitches he had, on his chest, his forarm and internally
around his chest were the kind that melted. He did not have to have
any stitches removed. I was SO glad when the vet mentioned that to us

Well, the new planting stuff arrived for a variety of lettuces, so that's good :) I see more peppers coming up, and more cherry tomatoes too. I think Ron checked how old the tomato plants were and they are well past how long one expect them to keep producing.. Today I think I saw 8 cherry tomatoes about to turn red :)

He couldn't reach the incision on his
chest (that was the big one) so I knew that would be ok, but he sure
could reach the one on his right foreleg... I found a really big
bandaid (huge size, I swear we have the most inane things here <g>) and
put that on his wound on his foreleg so he couldn't 'eat' it.
    Good solution... :)

It was mostly good. Unfortunately, the first time I did that, I got
some of his fur trapped in the bandaid edges.. and he let me know when
I tried to pull that one off...(ouch)...so I had to keep putting water
on it to get it to 'fall off' so I didn't have to yank off his fur.. he
would NOT have liked that <g>

Ouch... I guess you were more careful putting on the later bandaids...

It was a little hard to find a spot on the dog where the hair wouldn't get trapped..but I was able to do that finally.

I cut off the big bandage on his chest after 3 days, so it was just a
partial thing.. Thankfully that fell off by itself at some point. and
right after that essentially, the bandaid fell off his foreleg. What a
relief, and no "alian collar critter thingy" Lol
Guess you all weathered that fine then... :)

Just a couple of misteps really like the first time I had to change
that first big bandaid I put on his foreleg. Thankfully he doesn't
    need any of that now.

    Yup... that's a good thing... :)

But it won't be for long. Already I can see another bump on the poor boy where
one of his incisions is.. I haven't called the vet yet, it's very small and I'm _hoping_ it is just the original wound just normalizing (but it seems too long timewise for that).. I will probably call him this week though while it's
still small. I do not want to think about him going back.. he will know as soon as we get in the car what is going on.. geez. I wish there was a different
way to deal with this so he didn't have to get cut again, but I can't think of
    any other way.

geez. I also know that it's important to walk and eat, etc. after
surgery so that is what I was watching with him. I was so glad he
    thought about food Lol
He was healing quickly... always a good sign...

Yes, very true. And also very good that he is back to trying to steal
food from everyone in the house in his best yellow-lab way Lol It is
really funny how that was something that did just start again recently.
It was like his body said, "Ok, I've waited long enough.. back to
    being a THIEF!" haha

    Getting back to normal... :)

Now I'm trying to keep him from eating tons of Dog treats so his weight drops a
touch.. He's solid dog, not really fat but I don't want to 'feed' the tumor if
that is what is going on now (again) :(

Meanwhile, the dog gets too many treats as it is, and I can't figure a way out of that.. Every Mon/Wed/Sat the aide comes so to keep the dogs from eating the 'help' when they come to door, we give them treats.. These dogs cannot remember ANYONE it kills me..

Yes, all the stitches he had, on his chest, his forarm and internally
around his chest were the kind that melted. He did not have to have
any stitches removed. I was SO glad when the vet mentioned that to us
    :) I'm SO squemish..

    Then he's also self-regulating... also a good thing... :)

I don't think he wants to test how it will feel to jump yet, that is
fine by me. He just started running some, I don't let him do that much
yet.. just sometimes now he DOES run to door, that kind of thing..
That's ok. I don't let him run crazy outside yet. He'll get there.
It really was a major surgery for the boy (er.. old man <g> or .. is
he a young man?? Lol.. not sure how to judge ages with him haha).

They're always puppies, even when old men... ;) Sounds like he's
    healing apace... ;)

Yes he healed very quickly, and all looks good in that respect. That's something.

    Yeah and I figured really, it didn't matter. He's not a young'un..
he's about 6 or 7 years old? actually darn, maybe 9 or 10..

I asked Ron btw, and he says Indy is indeed about 8 or 9... hardly an old man, darn it.. but I guess in Dog years that's not a short time.

harder to explain to a dog or cat why the hurtful treatment might make
things better in the long run...

Yeah, there isn't an easy way to let them know what is going on, that
    is for sure.

And they can't be in on the decision, as we can't really know what
they'd want.... I guess we just do our best.... :)

If I had to guess, I'd think he'd mostly want to live like most living creatures.. but ...

Yes in Windsor.. and I am now gonna laugh so hard about Lizzie...

Good to laugh tonight alright :(

that's what killed me about the shelter naming those little kittens so
accurately...

They were happy
with each other and I felt like she'd be ok with that woman.. so that
    was good.

    Yup, that worked out... :)

    Yes, it did :)

Yeah, could be either, they never give you much information with these
aerogarden pods (plastic tubes that hold the sprout that grows into
the plant). For instance, the beet greens say just that, "beet greens"
on their box.. nothing more :) :)

Ah... one would have to really dig to find out more, I guess... ;)

There's no way to dig further that I can find :(

growing) is the cherry-tomato planting.. I'll be planting a second
planting in that garden as well, but with fresh plants of 5 types of
greens (various lettuce and other greens plants). I just ordered the
greens on Amazon a few days ago so they should be here tomorrow :)

I think I'd want to plant more cherry tomatoes... ;)

My Peppers are probably the next bunch that will finish - I think I'll
just plant more peppers.. they are SO sweet and good :)
I haven't bought or planted any hot ones, not my thing.. <grin>

We all have our own tastes... ;) I like the occasional hot pepper for cooking with... and don't do much with the sweets... ;)

I use the sweet peppers for peppers and onions .. oops.. saved this one too quick.. it's sausage and peppers but now more lettuce came so ... :)

    Take care,
    Janis

True.. though all I saw at the vet's office so far were other dogs.
Now we haven't been there that many times yet of course so who knows,
next time we may see a cat. :)
Perhaps he has dog days and cat days....? with perhaps an exception for families that have both dogs and cats and wish to bring them at the same time....?

Could be, but I don't really know :) It is a very small office... but
he is a great vet and I have a feeling he is well known in the
immediate area since his office was very busy.

Sounds quite likely... :) well known and well liked.... ;) I guess
you'll find out if he separates out dogs and cats... especially if you
show up for an appointment for the cats, and all that are in the waiting
room are cats instead of dogs.... :)

First she came over and sat on the couch where I was sitting, and
started snooting me, then she hopped on the arm of the couch and just
started purring. I couldn't believe this, I kept saying to Ron, look at
this - look at this.. haha Then I did pet her for small bit.. then she
jumped down hehe It was incredible though.
She's making progress... ;) Especially the purring part... she
obviously was content, and enjoying it... :)

Yes, it seemed to me like it was a case of "I'm very happy, but don't touch me please" (laugh) If I hadn't pushed the petting she might have stayed sitting there longer, who knows.

Or at least very content... ;) She might have stayed longer, but maybe
she'd reached her limit for that session... ;)

I think they could all tell when I was worried, bothered, etc. with
    everything concerning Indy...
Yup... animals do sense our anxieties, just like kids and babies do...
and most likely were just as concerned for Indy as you were, in their
    own ways....

Yes, that has been apparent to me for many years. I remember once
when the German Shepard we had at the time was sitting with me in the kitchen. We had a plumber due to come by. He was late, and I'd been watching for his arrival for a while. He finally arrived.. and then
When I handed him a check for his services, my shepard GRABBED his arm
by the wrist.. she just held it, didn't bite him, but just HELD it ...
I was so surprised, so was the plumber :) :)

I guess she was letting him know he should have come on time, but then
thanking him for his work.... ;) I'm sure she sensed that you'd gotten
    past your angst.... (G)

complying, she'll sort of ease herself onto the lap to be just a little
    more available or something...
Does Spook feel more comfy with you both lately, or do you think
something is bothering her? I've had some cats get close for both
reasons in all the years I've had cats..
It just seems to be that she is settling in to the whole idea of being
safe, and being able to claim attentions... :)

That is good for a cat.. better than them being indifferent <g> I've
    seen that plenty of times..

We keep reminding these two that cats are supposed to be aloof and
mysterious, but they're too interested in getting their attentions... ;)

    Both cats are Richard's
"puppies", they tend to follow him and/or tag team him to take care of things for them... and demand attention from him... To a lesser extent, they accept, and occasionally demand, attention from me... Neither of
them has gone for sitting in my lap... just his... :)

Our kitties were the same way with Ron for a long time. I have no
idea why they chenged their minds somewhat, but for a long time they couldn't have cared less about me it seemed ...Now most recently they
bug me for things like food and water. I guess it could be "the indy thing" <g>

They want their fair share.... ;) And finally noticed that you could be
    a source too... <G>

Lately Spook's been taking over Shadow's particular spots... not
totally, and will give them back... but feeling comfortable to just
    branch out... ;)

Sounds like a little jealously between the two there maybe?

No, not really... these two are genuine littermates, and often seem to
be one cat spread over two bodies... More than once we've seen them intentionally share... and/or defer to each other... really odd pair, actually... ;)

I always have to laugh when I see our two pups do that, and they do
it often. And it's both of them, not just one of them. :)

It's seen more often with dogs, being pack animals... and apparently you
or Ron are the alpha dog... <G>

It was mostly good. Unfortunately, the first time I did that, I got
some of his fur trapped in the bandaid edges.. and he let me know when
I tried to pull that one off...(ouch)...so I had to keep putting water

It was a little hard to find a spot on the dog where the hair wouldn't
get trapped..but I was able to do that finally.

    Good show... :)

    Yup... that's a good thing... :)

It could be the wound normalizing.... it's not been all that long... and sometimes that sort of thing does take a while....

do not want to think about him going back.. he will know as soon as we
get in the car what is going on.. geez. I wish there was a different
way to deal with this so he didn't have to get cut again, but I can't think of any other way.

Hopefully the vet will pronounce it normal, and nothing to worry
    about.... :)

Now I'm trying to keep him from eating tons of Dog treats so his
weight drops a touch.. He's solid dog, not really fat but I don't want
to 'feed' the tumor if that is what is going on now (again) :(

You might ask the vet if the treats would be an issue.... maybe it isn't one....?

Meanwhile, the dog gets too many treats as it is, and I can't figure a
way out of that.. Every Mon/Wed/Sat the aide comes so to keep the dogs from eating the 'help' when they come to door, we give them treats..
These dogs cannot remember ANYONE it kills me..

Or they know they have a great scam going, and milk it for all it's
worth.... (G) They seemed to recognize us when we returned for another
    picnic at your house... ;)

    Yeah and I figured really, it didn't matter. He's not a young'un..
he's about 6 or 7 years old? actually darn, maybe 9 or 10..

I asked Ron btw, and he says Indy is indeed about 8 or 9... hardly an
old man, darn it.. but I guess in Dog years that's not a short time.

Middle age or so, anyway.... and large dogs do age faster than smaller
    ones, having shorter life expectancies....

No "fine print" anywhere, even on a website...? or people at the
    company to ask...? :)

Ok, sweet peppers for sausage with peppers and onions... ;) And now
you need to find room to plant the lettuce... How long do you have
    before it MUST be planted....?
