• 919 Picnic & various

Will do... and will at least bring them up-to-date on picnic plans as they've solidified... and remind them that it's all for their benefit, mostly... (G)
So what are they doing that's so important
to prevent them from being on the echo, anyway?
Good question... Burt seemed a bit embarrassed about his inability to
manage to get himself properly connected, even just to read... mumbled something about not remembering to do so, now that it had slipped out of
his routine... It might be connected with his increasing lack of
reliable short-term memory... and to the timing of when he used to do
it... I think he might have been doing the echo after Shirley went to
bed... and she seems to be his short-term rememberer now...

Mmm. Getting old is a bear. At least they can
still drive - or can they?

You are staying on site the whole time, no doubt,
for convenience and to provide all hostly services.
Debating that... makes a lot of sense to do it that way... but if I do,
we might not have as much of Richard's presence as we would if I was
coming from home and dragging him along... (G) I'll figure it out
probably as we get closer to the time... :)

Yeah - you seem to be in a geographically
borderline position similar to the Fords'.

That's not what Google Maps said, not that
    that's always trustworthy -
Indeed... I much prefer a real map, as you know... ;)

We used the GPS and the 1984 AAA map equally
in our quest to avoid Newark and New York; each
    had its advantages and disadvantages.

for the Dresden Airport to Dresden adventure,
it advised us that to get from the airport
to the airport train station, you had to walk
45 minutes around the runway area. The terminal
was pinned at the wrong end of the facility,
and the station is actually 5 min away via
    a dreary East German-style tunnel.
    Good case in point... :)

I knew this beforehand, but Lilli, a child of
technology, wouldn't believe me. She said "you think
Google is always wrong; it isn't." Well, it was.

So you are backing off on the possibly local aspect... probably the apricots and plums were also imported, then.... just possibly from not quite so far....?
Put it this way - the possibility was never
very high unless you widened the scope to a
radius of several hundred miles, looking
south or at least in hothouses.
That does make better sense... ;)

A lot of things are possible, but the massive
probability is and was that the fruit were all
shipped green from someplace like Algeria.

Dunno... I'd tend to guess that European concerts would be more formal, but I've no experience at all there... I was more referring to the everyone trying to cook at once more than the massed pianos aspect, though... ;)
The ones we attended both turned out to have
mixes - some, mostly older couples, appeared
in their Sunday best; others, not so. I ended
up not wearing my fancy ecru silk sport jacket
(left over from palmier times) because it was
pretty warm outside, in the mid-70s.
No need to be fancied up just to overheat, after all.. ;) And it sounds
like it's a lot like here as to how formal... As long as one looked reasonably presentable... ;)

Sitting front row center made me conscious of
the need to wear something subdued, but I
really don't care for the black and white
routine unless I'm actually performing, so
my outfit was a purple-gray shirt and a
gray-gray pair of slacks, the better not
    to be found.

He still does, she might still on a limited basis...

And they are probably closer to Lydia's than I am, actually... But when
we were in the last months of my mom's life here, I was making that trip
3-4, sometimes more, times a week....

Perhaps you needed a more updated AAA map... ;)

Besides, we don't think that Google is ALWAYS wrong, just that it is
    often totally wrong... (G)
