From MICHAEL LOO@1:123/140 to NANCY BACKUS on Sunday, June 17, 2018 09:10:12
Say hi, and put the strong arm on them. After
all, they're the main reason we're focusing
    again on that far north.
Will do... and will at least bring them up-to-date on picnic plans as
they've solidified... and remind them that it's all for their benefit, mostly... (G)

So what are they doing that's so important
to prevent them from being on the echo, anyway?

Henrietta... but there may be one in Victor or Canandaigua... But we may not need that anyway... :)
Victor, I'm pretty sure - there are plenty of Hilton
properties around there, but the Hampton in Victor
is the one I can afford to put people up at. Penfield
and Henrietta are better deals, though but apparently
    farther away.
Yeah, they are farther away.... Victor is probably about 15 minutes
away, maybe less, and Henrietta would be more like 25-30 minutes away...
not sure about Penfield, that likely would be a little farther...

You are staying on site the whole time, no doubt,
for convenience and to provide all hostly services.

Looking things up on the map, I notice that
East Bloomfield is due west of Bloomfield.
Maybe the area was settled by Bostonians,
whose sense of direction is kind of off-kitler?
No, not really... Bloomfield Village is in the midst of the town of East Bloomfield, and the town of West Bloomfield is to the west of East Bloomfield... she's actually outside the village itself...

That's not what Google Maps said, not that
that's always trustworthy - for the Dresden
Airport to Dresden adventure, it advised us
that to get from the airport to the airport
train station, you had to walk 45 minutes
around the runway area. The terminal was
pinned at the wrong end of the facility,
and the station is actually 5 min away via
    a dreary East German-style tunnel.

Maybe some things ripen in transit better than others...? Or the Hilton didn't take the time to ripen the local-ish fruit before setting it out...? Wegmans puts out "ripening" bags when selling things like apricots and plums and all....
    1. Maybe. 2. Nah, those bore no resemblance
    to local-ish anything.
So you are backing off on the possibly local aspect... probably the
apricots and plums were also imported, then.... just possibly from not
    quite so far....?

Put it this way - the possibility was never
very high unless you widened the scope to a
radius of several hundred miles, looking
south or at least in hothouses.

The scene could be reminiscent of the concerts
with massed pianos from back in the 19th century.
    Isn't that rather a picnic'y scene anyway....? ;)
Well, yes, but I don't know how formal the
19th century European versions were. Probably more
so than here and/or now - I'm wondering what to
wear for attending the concert in Dresden.
Dunno... I'd tend to guess that European concerts would be more formal,
but I've no experience at all there... I was more referring to the
everyone trying to cook at once more than the massed pianos aspect,
    though... ;)

The ones we attended both turned out to have
mixes - some, mostly older couples, appeared
in their Sunday best; others, not so. I ended
up not wearing my fancy ecru silk sport jacket
(left over from palmier times) because it was
pretty warm outside, in the mid-70s.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v7.06

Title: Sunday Black-bean Soup (new York Times)
    Categories: Soups
    Servings: 6

    1 lb Dried black beans
    2 Smoked ham hocks
    3 c Chicken stock
    4 Coarsely chopped carrots
    3 Coarsely chopped onions
    3 Coarsely chopped celery
    1 tb Chopped jalepeno pepper
    3 Garlic cloves
    1 ts Cumin
    1 c Dry sherry
    1 Lime (juice)

To soak beans quickly, cover them with generous amount of water, cover
    pot,
bring water to boil and boil 2 minutes. Remove cover and allow beans to
sit in the liquid for one hour. Drain. In hot oil (1-2 Tb.), saute
carrots, onions, celery, and garlic until onions are golden. Add cumin
    and
jalepenos. When beans are ready to cook, add ham hocks to beans along
    with
sauted vegetables, and chicken broth and enough water to cover. Cook for
    1
1/2 to 2 hours, or until tender. Drain the bean mixture and reserve
    cooking
liquid. Puree beans and vegetables. Add sherry and lime juice and enough
of the reserved liquid to make a thick soup. Can be served with chopped
coriander or sour cream or lemon slice.

So what are they doing that's so important
to prevent them from being on the echo, anyway?

Good question... Burt seemed a bit embarrassed about his inability to
manage to get himself properly connected, even just to read... mumbled something about not remembering to do so, now that it had slipped out of
his routine... It might be connected with his increasing lack of
reliable short-term memory... and to the timing of when he used to do
it... I think he might have been doing the echo after Shirley went to
bed... and she seems to be his short-term rememberer now...

Henrietta... but there may be one in Victor or Canandaigua... But

Debating that... makes a lot of sense to do it that way... but if I do,
we might not have as much of Richard's presence as we would if I was
coming from home and dragging him along... (G) I'll figure it out
probably as we get closer to the time... :)

Indeed... I much prefer a real map, as you know... ;)

No need to be fancied up just to overheat, after all.. ;) And it sounds
like it's a lot like here as to how formal... As long as one looked
    reasonably presentable... ;)
