I've no problem with silicone-coated things,
but the all-silicone stuff, which I presume
to be easier to manufacture, no.
    None in my kitchen.... ;)

Occasionally I cook in a kitchen that has
silicone spatulas or hot pads, but my
exposure is usually confined to that.

I think you may be right... rings a quiet bell... they showed up at a
    Boyd Pond picnic...
If I got them in 2011, probably Tokyo; in
2015, more likely Australia. But I've no
    recollection.
And I don't recall which year, either.... might have been 2015... I
think Hafflys might have been there...

    Possibly - I don't keep roll.

Not really... as all was planned for indoors... and the rain didn't
really get started until near the end of the reception.... But I did
have to drive in it across the Bay Bridge... which put a damper on
    me...
A good excuse for everyone not to exceed the
    speed limit, though.
Pretty much... :) I ended up pulling over to the side of the road
finally, on the other side of the Bridge... My driver's side wiper
tried to escape (fortunately just dropped into the well in front of the windshield), and it turned out that driving through the somewhat minor flooding shortly thereafter tore off the cover for my fuel lines....

So you didn't escape unscathed. I don't know
about covers for fuel lines - was that a cause
    for immediate concern?

Someone from church that used to live in/near Ellicott City was saying that a lot of the problem is all the new construction built up not
taking into account the nearness to the river... apparently it just funnels the flood into the old city....
Land overuse may well have something to do
with it, but apparently what was advantageuos
to a mill town is not so much any longer. And
the place has a history of floods.
Maybe there is some way to divert the floodwaters....?

The big question would be where and how.

Perhaps if he'd been declared incompetent
years ago, it would have been better at
this far remove, but I thought he needed the
encouragement of standing on his own as much
    as possible.
Hindsight can change some of the thinking... but one does the best one
can at the time... some things are just balance judgements... and we
    don't see the future....

If anything dire happened to him I'd feel
    guilty all the same.

I think it was intended to be good-natured, but it did get out of
    hand,
and there were hurt feelings at the very least, to say nothing of the mess I ended up having to clean up...
    Your son helped, of course?
It's a long time ago... but I don't really remember him helping, at
    least not much....
Ah, sorry, but that's the way things go.
Water under the bridge now... ;) At least he grew up fairly
    responsible... ;)

Fairly is all you can expect - or probably
achieve even in a normally responsible life.

As it turned out, it should have been... ;/ I wasn't sure what was
dangling, noticed them as Gail and I were loading the car for my return
trip a day or so later.... and when I made the appointment for the
mechanic to check it out, he didn't seem concerned... UNTIL he saw them,
and then told me not to drive it until he could get the replacement
cover... ;) I mentioned that I'd managed to drive it safely home from Maryland, and for the day or so before they could see me... and his
response was, but now I know what it is, and I don't want you taking
    that risk... ;)

Understood. And, all the same, you are in essentially an analogous
position to a parent... once the child is on his/her own, they make
their own decisions, for better or worse... A parent might be able to
buffer some of it, but not necessarily... and shouldn't feel guilty when
one can't.... we can't really protect our children, especially not
    forever...

    Your son helped, of course?
