So two containers where one used to suffice:
    ecological and practical unsoundness rolled
    up into one.
The cookie sheet wouldn't (likely) get dirty, it's just for
    transport...
So just use a normal one.
I would... I've not invested in any of that silicon stuff myself
    anyway...

Short-term gain is a big incentive for
rolling out new products that really offer
no advantage over what has been available
already. Silpat sheets are okay, but they
do nothing that greased or parchment-lined
ordinary ones can't, plus they make a flatter
product unless you put in too much flour.
But muffin tins made of the same material,
which is how this particular subdiscussion
got started, who was the genius who thought
    that up?

Oh, yes, I agree, not the pink ones.
The "strawberry" ones usually have an off taste...
It's been so long, for having avoided the taste,
that it might be time for me to try it again just
    for jogging the memory's sake.
Dunno as I've seen them lately... I did see a package of the Nabisco
ones recently.... oh, I bet there are some in the bulk department... get
a handful of each for the picnic, maybe...?

I've seen them mostly in ethnic stores, as
various Asian types (read the J word) seem to
have a fascination with weird things that have
long been discarded by their western originators.
They'll probably be cooking in silicone muffin
tins in Tokyo and Singapore fifty years after
everyone in America has thrown theirs out.

of human accomplishments, but Shaw demurred: "What if
the child turned out to have my looks and your brains?"
I remember the story... quite apropos...
Law of unintended consequences, which itself is
often disobeyed or inapplicable, but which is true
enough to give astute planners reason to be cautious.
    One would think... ;)

    There's a balance - but sometimes circumstances
change or luck just runs out. Two years ago there
was a monster "once in a thousand years" flood in
    Ellicott City, just a few miles from the Shipps';
a couple days ago there there was another "once in
a thousand years" flood, said to be even worse.
Somehow 2016-2018 hardly constitutes a millennium.

While it's good to be charitable, one does have to also provide for
one's own self, by using one's assets wisely... And it really isn't the responsibility of others to bail one out when one doesn't do so...
I promised my father to keep an eye out after
him - that's the main reason I do. It gives me
no particular pleasure or gratification to do so.
I know. Perhaps he's moved past that threat to disburse unwisely... or
    even, perhaps, forgotten the idea....

Probably no and no, but it won't be my problem
    - I've done what I could to instill my version
of good sense in him, and it has not worked at
all: I've fulfilled my promise to my father
the best I could, and it's Pontius Pilate time.

that I donate to the class fund in return. Pay
to play is not my thing, though.
Mine neither... gratis maybe, and I'd probably accept pay.... ;)

    Well, that goes without saying.

Probably not beef, because of the possibility
of offending a minor part of the clientele.
Goat would be possible, but why bother if you
can toss the whole animal into the stew (which
was the only nonchicken meat available).
Lamb, maybe...? Were you at a buffet, or is this from the menu...?

Lamb is expensive; goat not so much, plus a
little goes a long way; chicken is of course cheap.

The Vietnamese really slice their bo thin. I think
they freeze it and then use a machine, at least over
here. No clue what they do in Vietnam.
Not sure how these people did it... :)
Had the boss standing in front of them,
    no doubt.
    It's a little family-owned hole-in-the-wall place... ;)
    Worse ... dad.
Or dad's mother... the real power behind the throne... ;)

But dad's mother is usually working. Have
you not noticed that in mom-and-pops, it's
generally Pop who hangs around doing next to
    nothing?

That conforms to my no party part at least.
In that case, the only parties were pretty much the major anniversary
parties we threw for my parents... and I did do a few birthday parties
for my son... he was allowed to invite (up to) as many friends as he was turning old... so 4 friends at his 4th bd party, eg... I gave that up
after the disastrous 12th bd party, at which his friends (from school)
ended up having a food fight... I vowed never again... although for his

Good- or bad-natured food fight? To the
cleaner-uppers that's not so relevant, but
    the context requires some context.

16th birthday, we did invite those same kids, with a couple more, for a
party at a local skating rink... thankfully they'd grown up since in the interim, and behaved much better.... ;)

Did you hear about the fight that got so
vicious that a hockey game broke out?
