The Society was too successful for its ownDaddy had quite the collection thereof, too... We did give away a couple
good: woe to the benighted soul who tries to
sell his collection of the magazines.
of boxes of them to the nice lawyer friend of our nephew as a thankyou
for giving us advice at the beginnings of our dealing with Mommy's
estate... He would have gladly taken the whole collection, but his wife totally nixed that idea... ;0
There's this book that's relevant called The
Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning.
Sad thing is that there are a couple thousand booksWhat sorts of books do you have there...? I might be interested in some
in the house to give to charity. A few years ago I
sent some to echo people who wanted them, but now,
Goodwill probably gets them all.
of them... I don't think I was on the echo when you did before... or at least I don't remember that at all...
There are all sorts of new printings of classics in
fancy bindings (marketed as collectibles but really,
as with National Geographic, anything but), coffee
table books, especially art, and so on. I am not
going to be back at the house before it's time to
haul stuff to Goodwill and can't give you a better
idea. If you wanted an outing, you could come to
Bethesda and take home a carload, but I'm not in a
position to tell you what's available. I'll be there
from 6/18 to 23 or so, and you'd be welcome to
pick and choose then, but I make no guarantees about
what you'd like. Let me know within a week if you
want to do this, so I can alert my brother.
Cookbooks have general interest, though. SoMaybe it will show up during the clear out...? There was a set of architecture books my son was interested in in my parents' house, which
I'm keeping the cookbooks. There's one I was
specifically looking for but can't find, L"Art
Culinaire by Henri Pellaprat, which my father
gave to my mother when they were young. My
father always liked good food.
I'd been watching for for him... didn't find it at all when we cleared
out the house in town... but when we were working on the stuff up in the attic of the apartment off Lydia's house, there they were... Safely at
my house now... But I haven't told him yet that I found them... I'm
waiting for him to come back home (or essentially home) first... ;)
The frenzy of cleanup loses a lot of stuff.
