I got dropped off at a slightly indecent hour
but had plenty of e-mail and Fido to do and
a little surfing, which I did with some
difficulty, because Boingo, which manages the
free airport Internet, didn't like my setup
    this day.

The flight was fine, fine enough for United to
ask me to review it, which I didn't. I did
receive the unwelcome news that they're phasing
out Courvoisier but keeping a good Bourbon
(Buffalo Trace) and a decent Scotch (Glenfarclas).
Neither of these goes with this french toast puck
thing with very, very sweet custard sauce, so I
    didn't have any.

Three hours in the spiffy new United Club, where
they offer goopy oatmeal but excellent berries
to go on it, so I just had a bowl of blackberries
and snoozed for an hour or two. Then off to the
far reaches of the other terminal, where my
chariot awaited. There used to be 9 terminals at
LAX; now there are 8: 1 to 3, Tom Bradley, and
4 to 7. What used to be 8 has been redesignated as
part of 7, so people don't stress as much about
the lengthy walk ("it's in the same terminal").

This is a cramped, unpleasant aircraft, and the
guy stuffed into the window seat was larger than
I am; though this seat was chosen to give me
maximum comfort (really, minimum discomfort), he
looked sad with his head up against the ceiling
curve, so I asked if he needed to switch. He said
he was okay, the right answer.

Lilli came by and, as I looked a tad hangdog, took
me to Oggi's in Liberty Station for lunch, which
offers among other things somewhat inexpensive
personal-size pizza. She got a pepperoni, pretty
standard and almost but not quite big enough for
two. I got the pepperoni and sausage for I believe
the same price - the sausage was those little
mushy turdlike items which I'd gladly have
sacrificed for a couple more slices of pepperoni.
Thw shakers of red pepper flakes (for me) and
Parmesanlike powder (for her) were welcome. We
ended up with two slices extra, which went back
    for her lunch another day.

Mother Earth Cali Creamin' on nitro is in fact
very creamy, definitely with artificial additives
including a large amount of strong vanilla. It went
okay with pizza. Lilli had a glass of unobjectionable
red wine, and we went back to the house fat and happy.
